  1. Chris...I already tried advancing the film and I did not get the click you mentioned when the anti double exposure mechanism released. I noticed that when I finally got the shutter cocked it allowed the release button to go down but it still won't release the shutter. I put as much pressure as I felt like I could on the release flange and it won't budge.

As I look at the slot the self timer rides in it appears to be stuck in the up or on position. But I have put as much pressure as I dare on it and it won't move. Do you have a picture of the lens head on that would show the position of the timer? If not I'll try to take a digital pic of mine and send it to you.

  2. Chris...thanks...I got my shutter cocked...I was not pushing hard enough at the end of the stroke. But the arrow is still pointing forward and when I push down on the release the shutter won't fire. The flange which contacts the release lever doesn't seem to have moved when I cocked the shutter. And FWIW the self timer is jamed..it won't move either way. I'm thinking that the double exposure preventer must be engaged. Any more ideas?
  3. My problem is that I don't have a manual. Loading it is no problem but

I don't know how to get the film counter started. And, now that I've

got it loaded the shutter won't cock and the shutter release won't go

down. There is a lever located at about 8 o'clock when looking at the

lens with a red spot on it. That must have something to do with

something but it won't move. I would appreciate some advice from you

Perkeo users out there. OMT...is there a manual available online?

  4. Here's how I do it in situations where I don't feel comfortable with my subject. I use a Olympus XA4. It's easy to prefocus because it's a 28mm. I keep it on a short strap and as I raise the camera I shoot when it is just below my chin. Then I finish bringing the camera to my eye and aim it at a building or some other person. The shutter on the XA4 is so quiet nobody knows when it goes off.
  5. I am scanning 6x6 negs on an Epson 3170. I have been using this

scanner for about a year for bw. This is my first attempt at color.

My first problem is that I can't tell which side of the negative is

the emulsion. Both sides seem equally shiney to me. I've never had

this problem with bw. If I put the negative in the carrier where the

*Kodak* is right side up I get a mirror image after the scan. If I

put the negative in the carrier so I'm looking at a mirror image of

*Kodak* then I don't get a mirror image after it is scanned. How do I

tell which side is the emulsion side? One other thing, after the scan

I'm getting a yellow line about 1mm in width across the image about

20% down from the top that is not on the neg. Thanks in advance.

  6. I think I know but I'm not sure. I just bought a zone system sticker

for my Soligor (Spot Sensor II) meter. Before I stick in the wrong

place I thought I'd make sure I'm doing it right. Any instructions on

where to put it and advice on using it would be greatly appreciated.

  7. The ultimate 6x6 pocket folder IMO is the Voigtlander Perkeo, very high quality and the smallest/lightest 6x6 that I know of. The 1 is real simple. The II has a film stop which is very nice to have especially if you are shooting quickly. If you want a 6x9 the smallest/lighest one I know of is the Baldalux. The one I have will shoot 6x9, 6x6, and 6x6 if you have the masks. The best thing you could do to learn more about folders is to visit Jurgen's site http://www.certo6.com. Check out his site and visit some of the links he has listed.
  8. I caught a History Channel show over the holidays about Dicky

Chapelle. For you younger folks she was the first female photogapher

to cover the big war. She later became the first female photographer

to die covering a war. That happened in Viet Nam when the guy in front

of her stepped on a trip wire. She started out with screw mounts and

graduated to M's. Several shots show her with one of each around her

neck. The show will be re-run 1/7/06 at 3pm EST. A goggle check will

get you well prepared to watch the show.

  9. I am considering the purpose of a new (to me) fixed lens camera. Is

there anything about this picture that says *good/bad camera* or

*good/bad lens*? About the picture: sunny day about 2pm, f16@ss400,

    tri-x 400, developed in HC-110 1/62 13.5 min @70 degrees. All

    comments will be greatly appreciated.

  10. I have several 6x6 folders I like to take along on camping and hiking

trips. Most of the viewfinders on these old cameras are not very good

especially for old eyes with glasses. Anyone have any experience

using accessory view finders? Which ones do you use and where does

one find them? Is there one that work well on a 6x6?

  11. I've spent a good bit of time over the holiday looking for a Perkeo II

manual with no success. I looked at all of the likely sites but came

up empty. Anyone out there have one I could get a scan or a copy of?

Would be happy to pay copy costs and postage. Thanks in advance.

PS...I posted this on the Classic Camera forum by mistake...didn't

mean to cross post...just wasn't paying attention.
