    Barb & Art

          22

Another attempt to create "art" from something I don't really like,

barbed-wire. I think I like this perspective a bit more than my

previous barbed-wire view. Comments welcomed. Thanks!

Isn't that VR on your lens sweet? I'm assuming this photo was held-held at 1/40th. To make it a clearer image, I would still go with the tripod, lower the ISO and up the F stop for more depth of field. And don't be afraid to use some digital sharpening, if not already done. Most people tend to over do it, but here, more would help.

A good image, but with either inadequate lighting on the subject or the levels are too low? You did manage to capture all the detail in the white, which is commendable.
  1. This image has potential; what I don't care for here is the low lighting and general softness, and the color tone. Perhaps try it with the background further removed? The bright background and shadow completely distract my eye from the forground image.
  2. Max, this has nice sharp petals, but the significant blur to the front of the flower stands in such contrast to the sharpness? It seems to give me the feeling that I'm too close to the flower and I need to put on my reading glasses...

    Paxos Boat

I like this image - I like boats. I think you could bring the levels up just a smidge to give the dark shadows a litte more detail. And as I've mentioned elswhere your logo on the image is not working for me at all.

    B&W Plumerias

Ryan, This image in LARGE size is 5997 x 4141 pixels. Since my 20 inch monitor is displaying only 1280 x 1024 pixels, I would need about a 90 inch monitor to view your lovely plumerias. As it is, all I see are a few millimeters of leaf vein.

  3. A small child wandering off into the blurry unknown - is it beautiful, or is it tragic? This image is rather plain looking, but is loaded with emotional possibilities. I'm torn on how to rate it, as I don't find it attractive, yet it is compelling...

I would really love to see this image scaled down to a decent size - it looks like a good, interesting photo. It's just so large I cant see most of it on my screen. For my vertically oriented photos like this I scale them down to a height of 768 pixels before submitting them, and that seems to work well.

    Snow Fence

This is an actual view of a snow-covered hillside on a grey winter day in the pacific northwest. I removed the top of a power pole in the bottom center of the picture, and also some small grass clumps on the right side, and played with the levels and contrast a bit. Thanks - Cecil
  4. Old-fashioned electrical insulators, still in use on this remote

utility pole in eastern Washington state. I like shooting this sort

of thing, but am wondering if it holds up aesthtically for others?

Interested in comments on the cropping and toning as well; I changed

it several times before settling on this one. Thanks!
