I bought my D200 from onecall.com - with $75 off. They are my favorite place to shop.
-
Wow, 3 J's in a row - that's why this is the same zoom len question.. :=)
John, at 35mm is when I have the problem, all other areas work.
Joseph, shifting to different focal length is what I do now and it starts bugging me, wish I dont have to do this all the time.
And Jay, I tried both on my D70 and my new D200 - both have the same problem. I am guessing the same thing as you - electronic contact may be the problem.
-
This is a push-pull lens and there wasnt any hit or drop at all. Maybe its reaching its age,
dont know what the cost to send it in for repair - or something I can try fixing my own.
-
It wasnt engaged to macro, otherwise I wont be able to slide it back and forth. I dont know if
some electrical contact got loose or fade at that particular area.
-
Does anyone have this problem? For temporary solution, I slide it back to about 36mm and
its okay but its starting to bug me. Any idea how I can fix this issue, beside sending in for
service? Thanks.

photoshop it.

I bought mine from e-bay from a seller in Hong Kong. $35 plus $12 shipping.
-
Nevermind.. I got it.. thanks BW!
-
It is the ML-L3 - typo..
The plastic shield for battery was removed.
Playing around with the Menu, I dont see the option you stated.
The REMOTE submenu gives me 1min, 2min, etc..
I dont see the "delayed or quick remote" option.
What am I doing wrong here?
-
Just got mine yesterday - but its not working. Is there any extra setting you need to
adjust?
-
Ross, you're right.. I removed the metal base and it aligns perfectly. I didnt have to drill
any hole though - just use the regular tripod standard screw and it's alright..
Yoni, this is for the older lenses (pre-1999). Kirkphoto.com only sell current models. I got
it on keh for $109.
-
I'm not familiar with this - but I received my order today. The mount has the collar on one
end, and the other end for tripod mount. I was able to mount and stabilize it on the FM2.
The lens by the way is the 2.8D push/pull model. When I try on the D70, I cannot align it
because the base on the camera is higher. Is there some extra piece I need to buy for this?
-
try keh.com.. I bought lens under 'bargain' condition but it's compareable to some
'excellent' condition listed by ebay sellers.
-
Leonard, that's exactly what I meant.
I mainly wanted to fire up the White Lightning strobes for portraits, and dont want the
flash coming from the D70.
-
There's a cheap optical slave trigger branded JPSlave on ebay for
about 10bucks. I dont know if this would be safe to mount on the
D70's hotshoe.
What brand do you recommend? I mainly want something wireless and
affordable. Thanks.

I currently own an N80, FM2n, and thinking of investing on the D70. Currently I have the
following lenses: 24mm 2.8D, 50mm 1.8D, 35-70mm 2.8D, 80-200mm 2.8D ED. Would
these lenses be alright with the D70, is it necessary to purchase the 18-70mm lens
package? Or would that be overlapping? I heard something about DSLR have different
sensor compares to the film lenses I currently own. Anyone use the same lenses I have on
their D70?

Hannu and Benny is right. A filter is required to resolve the focus problem. Unfortunately the clear filter that came with it wont screw fit - has bad threads. I used the colored filter, and the mirror no longer gets stuck and was able to focus correctly. Other than that, I think the lens seems to be a fine built. The seller thinks he sent me a demo one my mistake - so I'll be sending it back. Thanks for all your help.
-
Well, I read somewhere that their quality control may be a problem and probably got a lemon.
The seller agrees to exchange for another one - so I'll be sending it back for an exchange. Until then, I can conclude if that one is a lemon.
Nikon lenses are no doubt the great lens to own. This is the fisheye lens, it's supposed to be a fun lens. I tend not to spend so much money on something what i categorize "fun".
-
I dont know if you own this lens. I paid around $150 for this lens that's supposed to be
decent for its low price. Here's my initial finding:
(1) With the rear filter attached, the mirror on my FM2 got stuck. I had to remove the filter
for it to operate normally.
(2) The lens is out of focus. I had it set to .3 meter to infinity and is still blurry - I tried
focusing on subjects that are 1,2,3,4,5,6 foot away, exclusively.
I hope this is not a normal problem on this lens - or maybe its a lemon I got.

not sure.. their light stands are very similar to smith victors brand...
he has his own lightgearusa.com where he sells for other fits as well.
-
I ordered the WLs - I also get the additional 10% student discount. Thanks everyone.

I'm looking into buying a set of 2 lights - either 2-1250 photogenics, or 2-x1600 WLs.
I heard good reviews from both. Their prices are very competitive - though the
WLs have a little more power. Phillip's review stated that WLs are overrated in effective
watt-second, then someone on this forum said the 1250s have some problem with
syncing. Though the 1250s have 3 year warranty, while WLs give 5 years; I wont be using
much, except when doing weddings on location. Those who have one of these lights,
please share your experience. Thanks.
-
Not sure if thats a good price - but it's risky to buy something that is partially defective. I recently bought one on ebay for $350 that includes the FM2n, f/1.4 50mm lens, and a MD-12 with vertical shutter release. The camera is in a great shape and I'm very with mine.
-
I attached one of the inexpensive lens - well the Tamron 28-80 f/3.5
to the FM2n. At certain zoom, the half circle through the viewfinder
turns dark. I read somewhere from mir.com that says that only cheap
lenses do this. If this is a Nikkor lens with the f/3.5, wont it do
the same thing? I suspect its the aperture opening size, and not
because of a 'cheap' lens.
BTW, My other lens do fine, the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AI manual, and the
50mm f/1.8 AF.
Own both D70 and a D200?

How do you put them to work? Before I bought my D200, I was debating
whether I should sell my D70, but end up keeping as my backup.
I havent touched the D70 since I got the new camera - dont know in
what situation I would use it though.
Want to hear from you guys in the same situation.
