<p>Back again guys,<br>
believe it or not, the wife thinks that the S100 is a bit too large.</p>
<p>So, which compact would you recommend? In terms of quality.</p>
<p>Thanks again!</p>

<p>So far the Canon S100 is looking quite good. I'll try to get hold of the Oly as well, see how they feel once you hold them.<br>
Thanks a lot for the comments.</p>

<p>hi there,<br>
my wife currently has a Pentax s5i, and I think it's time for a change.</p>
<p>She needs something small that will fit in her bag, very easy to use, good battery life if possible.<br>
Most of the time she'll be taking pics of the kids indoors, so a wide angle would be more useful than a tele; and lighting conditions are not the best.</p>
<p>Money is not an issue, I prefer to buy something expensive that will give good results for a long time.</p>
<p>BTW, I've been out of the "photo world" for quite a while, that's why I'm asking, I've no idea what's out there nowadays.<br>
So, anyone has any recomendations?<br>
Thanks for any input!</p>

I'm trying to get an Oly 5060, but most of the shops (Europe) still
have quite high prices. At least that's what I think of a camera
that, in digital terms, is old.
Since they 7070 and 8080 are available, I'd think that the shops
would be trying to get rid of older/smaller models.
So, when do you guys think that the 5060 will show a proper drop in
price?
Cheers,
Fernando

Well, so far I've learned one lesson:
- no matter how many good advices you get from people at PN, and how prepare you think you are, it's down to the weather!!!
What a horrible week!
I couldn't go out there a single time! The only time when the wheather was good enough, I only had a 17-38 mm with me, so I would've had to "swim" very close to any boat to get something. So I decided it to leave it for the next trip (I'm planning about 5 trips this year to Mallorca).
It's funny though, I come from Scotland all the way to Mallorca, and it feels even colder in here.
Anyway, thanks a lot guys for all the advices, and I promise that my next trip will be productive (maybe only bad pictures, but I'll take them).
PS: FYI, the boats are Hobby Cat 16, about 8 of them. And next time I'll be in the power boat with the instructor, so I shouldn't get into anyone's way, but pretty close :-)
-
"and don't lean against the boat (motor vibration)"
maybe I could just get on an anchored yacht and try to shoot from there (vibration free?)
"Some of the sails will meter lot lighter than the boats and crews"
I'll keep an eye on that.
I'm really looking forward to this week. I'll be happy if I get just 10 - 15 pictures worth showing to anyone :-)
Sean, that's a great portfolio you've got in your website!

Craig,
I think I'll carry the camera with the 28-300 lens only, plus a filter.
As you say, I'll use individual bags, one for each battery (x2) / memory card (x3). I think I'll use my baby's little plastic bags (nappy bags). Maybe one of those bags in each pocket will do it.
But, I don't see myself doing much single handed. I need one hand for the lens and the other to hold the camera. Unless I was using a tripod, not in a boat, I wouldn't be able to do it :-(
Thanks for the comments!

Thanks a lot for the advices Jim.
I'll try to get a few good shots without dropping the camera in the water (will get lots of plastic bags as well)

"Use a neck strap so your camera doesn't fall in."
Ah, thanks! I forgot about that!
[runs to Jessops to get a neck strap]

my fault,
I've recieved two e-mails.
One with the right e-mail address, but I checked the wrong one :-(

"What you're describing is only possible if the "other member" is in fact an old account, created by you."
Actually, there's another account created by me sometime ago, but that's not the case.
I'm attaching a print screen so that you can see it:

hi there,
just wanted to let you know that there's a little problem with the e-
mails at PN.
There's another member called Fernando, as myself, when you try to
get his e-mail address from PN, my own e-mail address is displayed.
Cheers,

Hi there,
in a couple of weeks (first week of March) I'll be going to Mallorca
for a week. Once there I'll borrow a Canon D30 with a 28-300 lens
(not a really fast one). Most of the time I'll be in a sailing
school, and will try to shoot people who are learning advanced
techniques.
I'll probably be in a small motor boat, and they'll be saling either
small planning sailing boats or small catamarans.
Does anyone have any advice / comments?
Mabye someone has had a similar experience?
Cheers,
Fernando

OK, thanks a lot Hans.

Hi there,
next month I'll be borrowing again a Canon D30, and would like to buy
a 1 gig CF so that I can shoot in RAW format.
Does anyone know if this is possible? or is there any lower limit in
terms of memory size?
Thanks for your help

Hi there,
I have a specific question about the KM A2. Here at work we're
getting a new camera pretty soon, and I've narrowed it down to just
the KM A2. The main reasons are:
1) capable of hand held shooting superior to other P&S
2) zoom range from wide to tele
The camera will be used offshore, either in FPSO (Float Production
Storage and Offloading vessels) or Oil Platforms. Most pictures will
be of:
1) pipes (from 4 to 20 inches in diamaeter)
2) inside vessels
Most of the time the available light will be poor (we're based in the
North Sea). And it's very rare that we're allowed to use flash (due
to safety).
The quality doesn't have to be for a photographic contest, just good
enough to see the state of the structures, and identify any corrosion
going on. BUT, no blur at all will be allowed.
Now, the question is:
do you think that this camera would perform properly in low light
conditions, held by an inexperienced person (fully automatic)?
Well, thanks for any comments!
-
Sorry for not getting back sooner (too busy at work),
Thanks for your comments.
Since the Canon is so cheap at the moment, I think they'll get it and spend a bit on some more lenses.
I'll ask them if they can post some of their pics once they start working on it.

Here in the UK you can get the 300D for just 600 pounds with the EF-S kit. Once you buy it, Canon will send you a cheque for 100 pounds.
So, I doubt you'll find a D30 so much cheaper that it's worth.
If I had the money (I wish!), I'd try to learn with the 300D.

Hi there,
my brother was asking me about what type of camera he (together with
some other people) should buy to shoot some calendar photos.
Their budget is between 500 and 1000 pounds. Prefering to go to the
lower end, so they can invest in other equipment.
I told him that for about 500 pounds there are two choices:
1) 8 MP cameras (Oly 8080, Minolta A2...)
2) Canon 300D with lens kit
It seems that they'll be getting the 300D.
Would you say they're making the right choice, or they should look
for some other options?
Thanks for any comments.
-
I'm not asking because it'd be a reason to choose one or another. I'm just interested in the technical side.
Just like if someone asks the difference between Firewire and USB2. If you buy a new computer, it's easy to have just both systems, but you might want to know what the difference is between each other.

Hi there,
I was wondering why some manufacturers use CCD instead of CMOS for
their DSLRs. Does anyone know what advantages CCD has over CMOS?
Cheers

There are quite a few cameras that feature.
You can go to http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp and click Yes for the option "Time-lapse recording"

I'm trying to find out if there's a SDK from Samsung that can be used
with their digital cameras.
Anyone knows about it?

>> Even if you don't browse the nudes, how does your employer know that.
Maybe with a filter looking for the word nude, nudity, sex, etc...
That would allow me us to look at landscape, macro, nature, sports, etc...
Square filter for Tokina 11-16
in Accessories
Posted
Hi everyone,
after a few years with no camera (something you don't learn until you get divorced...) I'm finally back with my hobby.
I bought a nice Canon 77D and on Friday I should be getting a Tokina 11-16.
I'll be shooting some landscaping, looking for a nice sunset by the beach. I'd like to get some square filters, ND grad, most probably Cokin (good price/quality compromise).
So far the best set that I found under 50 euros is this one .
My question for you guys:
do you think that I'll be able to use these filters at 11mm?
Any advice?
Thanks for any input
