Done. That was quick!

I have a Cobra 700AF flashgun which is dedicated to EOS. It works
with their old TTL metering (I think). I used to use it on my EOS
620 with success. However, metering is hopeless on the 10D. It has a
tilt/swivel/manual zoom head, AF illuminators and is quite powerful
(about GN 40).
It certainly isn't the cutting edge, but it seems a shame to bin it.
I no longer have any use for it, but if anyone in the UK wants it,
then please send me an email. I'm based in London, but could post it.

Well surely the simple answer is to take some photos and SEE if they are suboptimal.

You could try resizing the image to 6"x4" at 300dpi in photoshop, which is what most of the lab printers (well, certainly the Fuji Frontiers) print at. Then sharpen the image as the final step with unsharp mask. Try a radius of 1, amount 100-200, and threshold 0.

I bought a Canon 10D 2 months ago, which came with Elements 2.0. Initially I was pleased with Elements, but I have just ordered PS CS, which happily has an academic license available.
Your situation is slightly different, if you have Nikon Capture. As the free Canon RAW convertor offered a lousy workflow, I was left choosing between Capture 1 LE and CS. I went with CS because I have been slightly frustrated by some features not being available in Elements, and it has a RAW convertor. I found myself wanting to use curves, use more layer features, as well as conveniently switching between aRGB and sRGB.
My advice would be to give Elements a try for a bit, as you already have it. If you think you are outgrowing it, then try the 30 day trial of CS and think about buying it. Do some searches on how C1LE compares to the Nikon software.
Hope this helps,

Thank you all for your informative replies. I guess the thing to do is try it in a shop and see just how noisy it is, and what it feels like.

I should add that I am shooting with a 10D, currently using the 28-105 f3.5-4.5 USM II.

Hi,
Has anyone used (or seen results from) the Sigma 18-50 f/3.5-5.6 DC
lens? I can't find any reviews online.
I realise that it's not going to rival a 17-40 L, but it is a sixth
of the price. I feel that while glass is normally a good investment,
£500 on a wide zoom may not be, as eventually we will presumably be
shooting full frame. There is also the issue of having £500 to drop
on a lens.
Thanks in advance.

If you use Custom function 13, you can set the autofocus point using the rear dial with no button-press first. However, a button-press is then required to set exposure compensation. Also, the point is then selected only by the rear dial instead of rear and top.
I miss the eye-control on my EOS 30...
Hope this helps

Sigma market it as a 10 megapixel camera. A friend who works in IT put it to me that the image is as good as a theoretical 10MP canon, because there is as much data going into it.
Now for a monochrome image, that would clearly not be the case, but once the RAW file has been processed, and the colours interpolated, perhaps he is right? I can't quite get my head round it.... Would interpolating the 3.something megapixel image from a Foveon sensor up to 10MP be the same thing as using a 10MP pixel image with interpolated colour?
My head hurts!
