This image is of an actual cliffside in Utah. The colors and shapes
are 100 percent natural. To me, this looked more like a comforter or
lined up pieces of candy. Anything but a bunch of rocks. Comments
welcome...

Yes, he probably did get one on me with that camera. Thanks for posting that photo. It is really interesting to see how close people get with their comps. Sometimes, its a basic straight on image. Pretty easy to get a bunch of photos looking the same.

Thanks for the comments folks. This was truly an amazing discovery for me. I was hiking up around Mt Rainier in Washington. I gasped when I saw this and feared I wouldnt be able to capture what I experienced.

800mm sounds awesome, but it's hard to achieve without spending an arm and a leg. I just used my sigma 70 to 200@200mm f2.8 so I could let the most light in and keep my exposure time down. I actually shot a few quick exposures each time and blended the blown highlights with the faster exposure into one moon image...so I had the best of both worlds...the bright, but not blown side, and the dark, but not too dark bottom left side.

Glad to see you got out shooting the eclipse last night too. But 800mm?!? Whew, that's a long one. This seems a tad soft...is this exposure longer than 1.6 seconds? It seems mine that are longer are blurry from movement...

Well, hey...lookie here. This is great. The whole thing fits very well together here. I might suggest to lift the moon off the mountain/hillside there a tad more. But I like what you have here with the softness too.
