Hi
I know this is the cheap end and I wish I could afford more but I'd like to know
opinions on the Huey and the Spyder 2 Express calibrators. My thinking is that
even a cheap solution would be better than trial and error and looking on the
Internet there are some favourable reviews for both. I have a Samsung LCD
monitor. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks for the help. These are tiff files from my scanner. I scanning in at 2700 dpi and then resizing in Photoshop Elements. I'm using vuescan with 24 bit RGB. I just want good quality prints from black and white. Should I be changing the output dpi to something much lower for the printer?

Is there a way of speeding up my black and white printing. I'm using
an HP 7660 on a PC with XP and 512MB RAM. Some of my file sizes are in
excess of 500MB. Am I scanning at too high a res. I use a scanwit with
vuescan. Suggestions would be very much welcomes as a 6*4 inch print
can take almost 15 minutes.

I've now tried setting P Elements to 80%. I also use a utility to free memory with 98 SE. My system is just so slow with even 6x4 prints. I'm getting so frustrated now not being able to use my printer. Any help please as I've searched the web for answers!
Many thanks

What makes HCB was his unique eye for the human and sometimes banal moments that became his photographs. It was not that he photographed great events but he caught ordinary people dealing with life's challenges: leaping across puddles, a trip to get bread from the shop. There was an emotion in his best photographs which made us sympathise with the subject. What was so good about HCB was that he searched for these pictures of ordinary people. A lesser photographer would not have realised they were there to be found. It's not about technique: it's about vision.

I wasn't aware PS handled RAM. I've now set PS to 80% and will use a utility called FreeMem that I've got. By the way how does cache levels affect RAM. Is 4 OK?
Many thanks for your help.

Hi! Sorry if a repost. I did do a search. I'm using PS Elements,
Windows 98 SE, HP 7660, Scanwit 2720S and have 512 RAM and 20GB HD
with 8GB spare. My 8x6 colour prints printed OK but with larger files
PS complained about lack of RAM. I shutdown everything, freed as
memory as I could and also defrag the HD but to no avail. Is there
anything I can do?
Thanks

I want to buy a digital camera for my daughter for about 200 GB pounds. I'd like
it to be a bit better and more creative than a point and shoot. For all you old
film timers something the equivalent of a Practika! I want her to learn about
DOF and exposure. I was thinking of a bridge camera if that's available for the
price. I have a Samsung GX 10 which she can use occasionally - but not when Dad
wants it. Your best suggestions please.
Many thanks in anticipation.
