Gosh, I didnt expect to find all these responses. Firstly, thank you all very much. This has helped and also added to what I found when I used the Search tab :). I have a Rokkor 40mm f2 (CLE version) prime, which is great and to an extent spans the 35/50 divide, although I still like 50 a lot too, but I wanted a 28 option and it seemed to me that there was not a lot of difference in speed or price for that matter between the Mk I 3E and the Mark IV Elmarit-M. (I hadnt realised there is a big difference between the MkI and MkII because I dont buy new). I am not overly concerned by weight because I find it helps to steady the camera and even "heavy" M lenses are pretty light by SLR comparison. I suspect from reading all your comments that Im just going to have to find one and try it out.

600x series lenses by their serial numbers?

I am not clear what benefits accrue from the use of floating elements
and, in particluar, how the Rollei Zeiss Distagon f4 50mm PQ FLE
differs from the 50mm f4 PQ. Any enlightenment gratefully received.

For 35mm scans for printing up to 11x14 the Minolta Scan Dual III is fantastic value for money and far better than the Taiwanese clones. You can scan up to 48Mb which is more than enough for this sort of magnification. By comparison, most digicam TIFF images are usually below 8Mb. The dust removal software is supposed to be less effective than that which comes with the Minolta 5400, but you can always remove spots in your imaging software. The image adjsutment software which comes with the Scan Dual III comes in two versions - an EZ version for those who just want the basics or a far more comprehensive version which does much of what you get in an imaging program. Scanning is boring but it has been a revelation for me - Ive moved back to 35mm from digicams with this discovery and am now archiving all my old film material (should take me a year or two!). The great bonus is you can do your own printing with these fantastic new inkjets (Canon 965i, etc) and have darkroom control without going through all the labours of the wet / projection process yourself. Brilliant. If you want to scan MF negs / slides you used to have to go for the much more expensive scanners (£2000 or so) but Ive read that the new Epson Perfection 3200 does MF rather well but is less good (insufficient resolution) for 35mm than a dedicated film scanner.

Rollei 6008AF + Masterware = Studio Flash Metering?

Can't speak for the 6008AF but the 6008i can be used with an optional Master Control unit which offers for the most part esoteric functions but includes the ability to sync the TTL flash metering system to studio flash units and non dedicated flash units.

It costs about the same as a good flash meter like the Sekonic L508 which everyone seems to like but appears to obviate the need for one. The Rollei 6000 TTL metering system iteself is renowned for its accuracy. I have not yet used this set up but I should be very interested to hear the experiences of anyone who has because I am in the process of researching this route myself.
On a linked matter has anyone had experience of Interfit or Bowen studio lighting and care to comment on them?
