1.
I had both and I decided to check the autofocus speed on them. I noticed the older version actually has faster autofocus speed and somewhat quiter. One came with a D40 and the other I had bought on CL. I decided to sell the GII version. Thom Hogan in his web site says the version II has faster and more accurate focusing, but I doubt he has done any testing on them.
I believe the version II is a cheaper production vs the previous version. Just to keep the prices of the D40 lower.

  2. I make changes to an Image in Digital Photo Pro and save changes and exit. If

I go back to the image using DPP the changes are there, but if I use microsoft

photo viewer it is still the same untouched image. How do I make changes so

even if another software is used to view the image the changes are still there?

    Thank you!

  3. I use canon digital pro software to retouch images. I change sharpness, tones

to where I like the image then save and exit. The location of the image, for

example, is C:/my pictures/IMG-2883.jpg. Now, when I go to my computer and

browse to C:/my pictures/IMG-2883 and use microsoft image viewer to view this

image it is the original untocued image. Is that how it's supposed to be? What

if I want the image in microsoft image viewer be the same as what I made it in

    Canon software? Thanks

  4. Alistair, Thank you! That solved the problem. I set it on daylight.

DN, I dont think it is demo. The last batch of 10D serial number started by 17... it is not likely one of the last batch was put up for demo. As far as I know only canon can tell you how many shots on the camera. The last file numbering on the camera was 128.

  5. I have got this new 10D ( it is new, old stock). In full auto pictures are

fine. In P mode all pictures come out strongly blue casted. I tried to change

the color temperature setting but no change. I tend to use the P mode since

it lets me use the center focusing sensor only. Any ideas? Thank you.

  6. same question in one day, here I copied my answer...

Kerry, I have used both 10D and D100 which is very similar to D70. Let me tell you this: Both are nice cameras, you cannot go wrong with one of the two but, Nikon has a camera/software aproach with its DSLRS. If you want bright and nice pictures right out of the box go with 10D, if you choose Nikon be prepared to learn and use Nikon Capture software which is a great tool and a must IMHO. I suggest you buy a comactflash card and take it to the store. take pictures with both cameras and see for yourself which one is easier to use and handle. I like the bright and live pictures of 10D, my only complain with the camera is the lag before the camera is ready to shoot. I have lost several pictures because of this. D100 however is instant on but I have to set the internal custom curve or process them to get the looks I like.

  7. I dont really know what your problem is. I have XP and my capture runs ok. Few suggestions:

Go to control panel/add remove programs ( you have to switch to classic view) and uninstal capture. I would uninstal any other Nikon software that are there, you can instal the later.

Go to Nikon website and download the trial version ( do not reinstal using your cd if you have one)

Try running the program in trial mode, see how it goes... let us know.

  8. Here is my approach that I know you wont like. I wait for the new announcements to buy the previous versions. This way I save quite a bit and wont lose much when I resell. look at D60 prices after 10D came out. Even Nikon D100 is cheaper now that D70 is announce.

This approach works great with computers too, always stay one or two version of pentium behind, the difference in the price can be big.

I havnt used ALL features that D60 has to offer yet, it sounds to me more like a "Camera Envy" to jump on the new one as soon as it's out. Look at this same site to see what wonderful pictures people can take with those "older midels".
