Good looking piece of kit! I still use the old cumbersome comment-attracting barn-door shade

Can be wet & foggy- the Adriatic, & because Venice has sunk (is sinking) sea levels can
rise alarmingly onto the pavement. Be prepared to splash around in water or navigate
using the trestle tables laid in rows -thoughtfully put out during "floods" so that your feet
stay dry.
Take the XPan & plenty of film. Film is almost definitely going to be more expensive in
Italy. Ignore the waietrs who offer you menus in Japanese.

Thank you for posting- concise comprehensive information; most helpful.

With apologies to Claude for contributing to the hijacking of this thread with durian talk. In Malaysia there's often a glut & a whole durian, thorns & all, can be had for about 25 cents US. Strangely I've never been tempted to photograph them.
-
Yay, durian! tastes a lot better than it smells.

Here's another link

You could also use a bit of developed, blank colour negatve film

There's also some good practical advice about buying a CL here
There's a general (?) belief that the Cls from the 1974 production runs (see Gandy's page)
are better because Leitz fixed some of the early weaknesses.
-
Methinks they would have done better to snatch Ernst Leitz.

The presence of a notched ring (engraved with numbers from 2 to 20, counterclockwise) means that your IIIc has been modified/upgraded for flash syc. Presumably there's a flash socket somewhere near the viewfinder eyepiece?
-
Don't know how practical it is for you to send the M3 to the UK, but have a look at CRR Luton's page on rangefinder restoration
Peter Grisaffi is the man to e-mail; he's a Leica trained technician. I think CRR are pretty busy at the moment, so you may want to ask him how long the wait is.

Looks good! Not less than $600, IMO.

Dimensions- length 13.5 cm. depth (body alone) 3 cm; with collapsed 5cm 'cron 6cm; height 7cm; an auxiliary finder in the accessory shoe adds about 2cm.
As has been pointed out it's heavier than a typical P&S & will definitely spoil the line of your jacket (I carry mine in a trousers pocket- no snide remarks please)
For me useability as a carry everywhere camera depends on carring a meter & keeping the 5cm finder more or less permanently on the camera because its squinty finder is horrible to use

Opticlean- Works extremely well by lifting dirt off the lens. Its a viscous polymer solution which you brush gently on to the lens surface; the solvents evaporate in a few minutes & you lift the polymer film off the lens surface using a sticky tab.

A (clean) tissue tied over a ttl flash head with a rubber band makes a good temporary soft-box. Can vary the effect by doubling layers; use to blow nose - or whatever- afterwards.
-
Delamination seems to commonly occur with the older Leitz polarisers- the POOEL; E39 type 'O'; 13352. CRR Luton replaced the glass on my POOEL with optical resin - of Cokin fame- no difference seen in pictures, but optical resin is less scratch resistant. My 13352 is still OK.

Sigh... a full English breakfast- black pudding included...haven't had one for years

All the feedback is much appreciated- thanks, David

Any opinions/ recommendations on the pouches sold by Kinesis Photo Gear? I'm looking
to carry my IIIc & 3-4 rolls of film in a belt pouch

LOL- laugh out loud; LLAP- live long and prosper.
IXUS- a small canon DNYL- a river in Egypt

A vote for Lutz's SCOOP- its cheap, very functional, never falls off.
Shutters, why curtain and not electronic leaf in the new designs?
in Leica and Rangefinders
Posted
An inter-lens leaf shutter also effectively limits maximum aperture- contradicting one of
Leica's lens design objectives- speed. You can see this in the Zeiss hassy lense- the ones
designed for the focal plane 200 series bodies are a stop faster than their built-in shutter
counterparts for the 500 series.
