  1. I shot anything and everything for a few years. Now I am finding that my brain power and time are filled just trying to get better in a few areas. I like to shoot what I am excited about and something that I have a passion to shoot. If a friend asks me to go shoot something I ask myself if I will be excited about looking at the photos later. If the answer is no I skip it and go shoot something that I really want to shoot.

If what you shoot excites you then keep doing it.

  2. I just skimmed John's links but it looks like some great information. I need to read them when I have a little more time.

I think we all have a little different way of working. For me it is about respect for the subject. I work at a close "shutter click" range and asking permission depends upon what I am trying to capture. I tend to ask permission more than others because I have been doing a lot of street and environmental portraits recently.

One thing my wife said to me lately struck me. She said that what I do helps to restore faith in humanity because of all of the really nice people I have met while taking their photos on the street.

  3. I would easily say that you should go for it. Those are all things that keep their value and have been selling well on Ebay. An honest Ebay listing should get you a fair amount more for each item than you paid for it as each one of those items would still be a bargain at 1 1/2 the price you are paying.

I would happily make you an offer on a few of the items if you are interested but you might be better with Ebay.

  4. Another vote for the lens here. I was in the same boat except I have the 10D. I went for the lens and absolutely love it. I might upgrade cameras when the successor to the 20D comes out but that lens is fantastic and once you build up your arms muscles you won't even notice all of the weight. For sports action you will not regret buying the 70-200 2.8. I love the image stabilization on mine but it is probably not essential for everyone.

I also have the 75-300 USM, it's around somewhere...I think. I need to dig that thing out and sell it. Anyone interested? It is like new! :)

  5. Sometimes the price that Helix will quote you in the store is higher than their website. If you find something on their site print the page out and take it with you. They won't have any problem giving you the internet price but they want you to have "proof." That is what I was told when I asked about an accessory that was quoted differently in the store than on the site. I had no problems and have been happy with them the times that I have ventured down there from the camera store wasteland that is Milwaukee. (sigh)
