How funny! In a sad sort of way. I happened to check out your portfolio, you have some beautiful photographs! Especially of birds! Makes me feel like a total amatuer! But you have inspired me. Thanks!

Wow, I have to say that is the saddest thing I have ever heard! Too bad you didn't get that on film though-;) Would have made a good shot, Tragic but good!
  1. Thanks for the helpful tip Dave. I am curious on how to backlight. I had a backlight set up but it was pointing towards me. Should I have pointed it towards the backdrop? Would that have seperated me from the backdrop more?

Re:Ben- I decided to try the cropping you suggested, see example photo. I feel the cropping loses the intimacy from the original. I really like how his hand rests on my shoulder.

This is a self portrait with my son, btw. I do hate how the shadows show up on him. But it is hard to do this sort of portrait with a self timer and no idea of lighting concepts. Although this is a 3 light setup, I am still learning. Is there any suggestions on how to light this type of portrait without the shadows?

It's a very pleasing composition. I like how the lines lead into the leaves. It's soft on the eyes, I really like lighting on this one. Thanks for sharing.
  2. You know, I have noticed that they no matter what there is always someone who rates a 3 with no photos in their own profile. It's gotten to the point where I don't even care about the ratings, but I do look forward to helpful tips and comments to let me know if I am doing a good job or not. I am an amatuer in photography, with barely a budget. I appreciate your comments, and they do help me alot. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment.
  3. Thank you for all your comments! I have thought about cropping this shot, but personally I like the color of the leaves in the bottom. Perhaps I shall experiment with it some more. Again thank you guys for great comments!

    Lisa,

I really like this shot! I just love Big Cats! My only suggestion would be to lighten it up(or use levels in Photoshop), because the snow leopard could be just a tad lighter. But overall, great shot!
