A google search "edwin slack NY" brings up a fellow in NY,
maybe inquire if he would like his pics back...

Where are you mister Canon?
Mister Canon has been busy for the last 15 years or so coming out with
better cameras/lenses and technology than Nikon. Nikon is years behind in some areas IS/VR is fairly new for them, Canons had it for years.
Stuck with Canon? Hardly you could sell it all on Ebay in one day and it holds its value well.

My girlfriend was in a similar situation as you. Me I dumped film and my SLRs 2 years ago and now shoot with just a Canon A610. She kept seeing me view my pics instantly (here its 2 week turnaround for slides by mail or a long drive to get it faster) and was amazed at the things I could do with just this little camera. She ordered a Rebel XT recently while the Rebate was still on. 2 days after getting it I noticed her quietly putting her film from the camera bag to the freezer...Its a no brainer. At least get a good point and shoot digital to start with, they pay for themselves very fast with no film costs. I would not wait for your dream camera when the digital Rebel XT bodies are so cheap now. You can always upgrade if it ever comes out. Meanwhile your camera would have paid for itself very quickly.

Start here, not for the faint of heart.

Debbie, we use that lens you have and it is great but here is some suggestions. If you can use a tripod, do so that way you can stop the lens down to about F16 to get more of the picture in focus. If you cant do a tripod use flash to stop the action/movement and stop the lens down. Focusing in macro mode mostly needs to be done manually.
A trick I do is to do a rough focus manually then slightly move my
body in or out and when its in good focus hit the shutter button.

Sigma did repair internal drop damage and rechip a 75-300 lens for $40 for us. Sounds like the seller or shipper was the problem. Hope Sigma still has parts for yours, a friend has the 28-70 F2.8 and there are no new chips and no replacement parts if his breaks too!

actually all the tests I see and read show the A610 has LESS noise at 400 speed than the A620. I have the 610 and it does pretty well at 400 speed.

So if you carry a rocket on the back of your vehicle no one parks anywhere near you and shopping carts play dead.

the mk1 does not have a metal casing, its gray plastic.
Optically they are identical both good. You will never wear out the plastic mount on the mkII dont worry. I felt the MKII focused faster. The focus ring on the MK1 is kinda vague and I prefer the MKII ring on the end for manual focus has a lighter feel to it..

My girlfriend toppled her EOS3 with a Sigma 75-300 lens on it face first on to the ground while attached to her tripod. It broke lens
somewhat(Sigma repaired and rechipped it).The EOS3 would hang up with the BC flashing in the lcd and would not fire, sometimes it would, sometimes not work. Sent to Canon and they had to repair the mirror
box(mirror was hitting something causing BC error)cost about $200 to repair, works perfectly now.

I do it with a Rebel xt with slides on a color correct lightbox with a dark mask surrounding the slide, camera leveled on a tripod.
The lens is the canon 100mm macro lens. Works well for me.

Grid for sure.

If you do get another sigma make sure it has been or can be rechipped to work with your new camera. The lens makes the photograph, thats the very last place to skimp on quality. You may have been better off to have gotten a cheaper body but better lenses.

Ok, here is what you have to do. Stick the camera on the green zone...
I mean stick it there so it wont move! Cover up the other symbols on the control dial. Charge the battery, insert a card, hand it to her,
show her where the shutter button is, tell her that her shots are great!

Your camera can handle even the old 283s as it can take up to 250 volts. The newer ones are only about 6 volts trigger voltage. As I recall I just set the iso on the flash, put it in the red setting and could shoot from about 3 to 30ft or so. excellent results too.

You will not get the quality of your other lenses from a Megazoom. Maybe pair it down to 2 good zooms for less lens changes. Just curious why you have so many lenses that overlap in their range?
Never mind, you must have a reason or have a winning lottery ticket.

my vote is for the Bogen/Manfrotto 3011Pro, just about the perfect tripod. Add a decent ball head to it and your done. Has the center column that can be used horizontally to get hard to shoot macro shots.
-
Well, now you know where they get the meat from!

I assume we are talking film cameras here you want to stay with?
You dont have to spend that much on a body these days, fully capable Canon Digital Rebel cameras only cost about $175 new and have 1/125 flash, DOf preview and built in flash. You want built in flash for wildlife? Unless its a wild party you want to shoot, forget it as the builtins have little power.

Canon G6 or better yet Canon Pro1. Recently both discontinued.
-
Look at the canon A610, has lots of room to grow with, she would like the swiveling, 2 inch LCD too,its very fast focusing,Very good lens, etc.
-
my trick it so put the lens in a metal pan of lighter fluid and gently warm it under a desk lamp, it ciculates the fluid and you will see the green grease come out and then they will unscrew. takes a couple hours. Do NOT leave unattended.

Best for that kind of money on the longer zoom is the Canon 75-300 lens (I just sold one for $110) if you need a wide angle the Canon 22-55mm USM lens for about $100 will work pretty good.
