1. Quite a helpful thread I would say. I've been asked to shoot an equestrian event in Singapore and it would be my first time shooting horses. Plenty different from shooting cats and dogs I am sure :) I've been thinking of using a 5D and 70-200 2.8 but after reading the replies above I am thinking of using a faster body.
  2. its a nice to have but frankly, it wouldnt work more than half the time, because of the reason Josh pointed out. I would never edited anything in the original and always Save for Web, and you would never have EXIF info in it. Same is true for most photographers.
  3. I am actually trying to setup a forwarding address for myself as "bilalbz@photo.net" and I get the error message "This address was recently in use and has been closed. It will be unavailable indefinitely. Please select another."

how do get to use this ID for myself?

    Thanks!

  4. Todd I am not sure if you are starting out new and asking how to get business using your new website. or you already have an established business with a newly created website.

basic thing is, its not about the website, or a business card or a brochure. they are all basic and necessary tools of helping you introduce yourself and your business to others. just having a website and running online marketing campaigns may not be the best way to start. Like any other small business, I would suggest your start with personal contacts. talk to people about your work. look for oppertunities to get noticed, get your work noticed. of course pass around your business card and your website link. but for now, most importantly, tell your friends to get you some assignment, urge them about it consistantly. just asking them to "keep a look out" wont help. sorry I know all this must sound too elemntry to most people here, but not quite sure what your current status is Todd. I'm at a pretty elementry stage myself when it comes to doing business.

But in case you already have an established business and you want to use your website to help your business further, well remember the two main strengths of the web:

1. cheap, easy and fast distribution:
get your website address printed on every piece of stationary your business has. the link should be at the bottom of every email that goes out from your business. pass around the link to your friends and new acquaintances and encourage them to forward it to others and to keep checking your website from time to time. but for that you need to make sure you have fresh and interesting content on your website, to keep people coming back for more. and of course submit your website to major search engines and indexes like yahoo and google.

2. power of interactivity:

your website allows you to let your current or prospective customers to interact with you. provide them with interactive content on your website which is amusing, entertaining or informative so that they can share it with their friends too. Use such content to let them give you some information about themselves and give you some feedback about your work, about their own likes and dislikes. for such online forms, always ask permission to keep them informed through email about any interesting news and updates related to your business or website

  5. Erick I am new to ND filters too, but in simpler terms, ND only makes your picture "darker". How dark depends on the factor of the ND filter. The purpose is to let you use slow shutter speeds or bigger aparture in bright light. Without an ND filter if you use slow shutter speed (for motion blur affect), or big aparter, in broad day light, the picture would be too over exposed.
  6. Thanks guys. I did buy 1GB microdrive, hitachi, supposedly really fast for a microdrive, but still takes some time recording even the jpegs. best way to overcome that seems like shootin in burst, but once you release it starts recording and you cant shoot. I think CF cards should be better, and would be worth a little extra money.
  7. i am hopefully get my Sony 828 this weekend (after i sell off my

717), and I really have no clue what sort of memory to buy for it and

how much? my primary concern is PRICE, but i am also concerned about

performance because i would occasionally like to make some long video

    clips with it.

Should I go for 1gb microrive? 512MB CF card? any ideas/suggessions

    anyone? thanks!
