Remember that there are millions (billions?) of people around the world who have access to film who do not have a computer or a wish to get a digital camera. They will need film for a long time before they can afford/use a computer or digital camera.

I just heard on CNN that Kodak is d/cing the Advantix line.

I recently got much more into photography, after realizing that I always enjoyed it and that people always complemented me on my photos. I surfed onto this site a few months ago, and it has been INVALUABLE in terms of which camera to buy, tripods, etc. Also, the links I got to were important.
The things I have learned here so far would have taken me a year to learn on my own.
Think about what $25 dollars amounts to- One can easily spend that on a weekend eating fast food with your kids or friends! Is it not worth it to keep this going?
Just something to think about.

I just got my dad's Retina (in mint condition), however I think the
lens needs to be cleaned. I do have the German made lens kit
(imported) that is designed to be used on Contax Zeiss "T" lenses. I
assume I can use this.
Can anybody confirm this or offer advice? I certainly don't want to
botch this.
Thanks for any input.

Sorry- I mostly will be using a Contax G2

Well, I need a tripod and I am getting addicted to buying (and
using) quality equipment. It sure seems like a lot of money to spend
on something like a Gitzo tripod and an Arca-Swiss ballhead (or
similar gear). Is this worth it? Do you really need to spend $400 or
$500 on a tripod? Why?
Think about it- you could buy a quality point and shoot or a new
lens to play with at those prices.
Thanks for any advice.

I think that even if 35mm processing decreases there will emerge specialty labs who will take advantage of a market niche, even if it means mailing your film out for developing. There are lots of film cameras out there. Unlike the Compact Disc/LP transition, digital imaging doesn't always provide a better or more convenient image. CD's were a clear improvement over LP's, but I think film is different. (There will also be artists who want to work in the traditional methods.)

I was able to buy a G2 with a 45mm lens and TLA 200 from B&H for ~ $1260 and then get rebated $500. This allowed me to move from a cheap Rebel with packaged zoom to a world class camera. I couldn't confidently spend $2500 to $5000 on Leica equipment now, but I did feel ok spending what I did to help me get close.
That was a good enough reason for me... I can overlook the fine points for the money I saved.

Forgive me if this is naive...
What makes photographs made with a Leica rangefinder different?
(They do seem to have a certain "thing"). Could you make the same
shots with an SLR with the same f setting, speed etc. and get the
same results? Is it my imagination, or is it really a different
result?

I suggest a trip to the pharmacy to get a pregnancy test.

I am going to start using a retina 2c which I used with much success
35 years ago, but I am trying to figure out how to set the film
speed dial with some current color and black and white films.
The dial just lists Plus X/Super XX, Kodachrome A, etc. Can anybody
translate these into any of the better current film (with asa
speeds) available?
Thanks,
Rob L.
