Though this is a gorgeous photograph, I was thinking it needed to be cropped either tighter or larger. Larger would have been though because of the sky and as I scrolled down to leave a comment I saw exactly what I was thinking. The softness is wonderful, the colors crisp and true, and the subject very pleasing. All in all, a great shot.
  1. Here's a joke I found somewhere... all of it is not really true but, funny.

    In the Beginning

God was missing for six days. Eventually, Michael the archangel found him, resting on the seventh day. He inquired of God. "Where have you been?"

God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, "Look, Michael. Look what I've made."

Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, "What is it?"

"It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put Life on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a great place of balance." "Balance?" Inquired Michael, still confused.

God explained, pointing to different parts of earth. "For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth while southern Europe is going to be poor. Over there I've placed a continent of white people and over there is a continent of black people," God continued pointing to different countries. "This one will be extremely hot and while this one will be very cold and covered in ice." The Archangel, impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land mass and said "What's that one?"

"Ah," said God. "That's California the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful beaches, deserts, streams, hills, and forests. The people from California are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent and humorous and they are going to be found traveling the world. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking and high achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as diplomats and carriers of peace."

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then proclaimed, "What about balance, God? You said there would be balance!!!"

God replied wisely, "Wait until you see the idiots I put in Sacramento."

...and here's a map of military bases in the continental US:

  2. Mr. Eaton,

    The Us Census reports:

Number of Californians who are in the armed forces is 149,000, the most of any state in the nation.

    82,000

Number of Navy and Marine Corps members serving at California military installations in 2001, the most of any one military branch in any state.

    California has 2.6 million veterans.

Percentage of Alaska civilians 18 and over who are veterans, highest of any state in the country. Some other states where 15 percent or more of the adult civilian population are veterans: Arizona, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.

None of which are anywhere in the eastern half of our country. So, if we were to secede, you'd be at quite a loss.

Bieng an American and a Californian, I do hope that the rest of the nations population aren't as tyrannical and murderous of it's citizens as you portray. To kill or exile anyone who may hold a view different than yours? Are you sure you're really American?

I think you may be way out of focus with the majority of your fellow Americans. Out west we see things differently (even outside of California). If the rest of the counrty feels as you do I'd gladly vote to secede. I'll keep my freedoms, you can have your oppression.

From looking though your portfolio I see you may live in Michigan? My husband (who is a deceased, decorated war vetran) was from there too. He would disagree with you and loved living in California. It's the state the military moved him too years ago and he never left.

  3. A great visionary and artist dwells within you. You are a muse to some and an inspiation to many. This is beautiful work, that I'm sure many here who are locked into technical photgraphic dogma and have no eyes to see the artistic possibilities that lie within the photographic realm, will fail to appreciate.

As a simple photograph it has it's faults (the original is almost technicly flawless). Over exposure.. Glaring light that causes loss of detail. But, I know you're aware of that and have purposely altered this photo to create a timeless impressionist scene of joy.

Your vision will be lost on some but, embraced and cherished by the ones who's eyes and minds are open to insight and vision.

This is truly lovely impressionist ART. I'd add a frame to this to close off the white expanses... and help the blind to see it more clearly.

I'm impressed, Nichole. This needs to hang on a wall and from my experience (you know it's pretty broad) it would compliment any gallery. It's so full of joyfull life and the beautiful colors that surround it. hehe...

See, I told you were good!

Perfect technique and beautiful as always. This is very interesting, powerful, and mystical. So many facets of the same psyche... it's great to dwell witin this aspect of the zodiac. hehe...

Yes, Belmont park. Old town is the best place for mexican food! hehe... you know your way around. Baloboa Park is one on my other favorite places too. I've got shots from all over including the carolinas. You have a great eye for identifying places! Thank you for looking and your kind and very charming words.
  4. I'd change the title to "Get a job like the rest of us" or "please don't stop our customers from getting to us, we have children to feed, mortgages and bills to pay...". I hope the person in the SUV didn't lose their job or have their pay docked for being late to work. A wise man once said "think three times, then act once". It's always good to think about who will really be effected by our actions. You're shots are always great!
  5. This is great! I love your photo's! Kind of typifies the aftermath of most protests. In California the fine for littering is a $1000. Yikes! This would an expensive mess. They should be ashamed of themselves! Who do you think these good people think will clean up their mess? Tax dollars... That means me and you! Is this "aftermath" also part of their rights as Americans? What about my rights not to have to pay for their callous lack of thought or care for those around them? Great shot. Thought provoking as usual.

yeah... Terrible police tactics. It would have been much better of them to hog tie her with zip ties and drag her away. sheesh... darn cops... doing their jobs... anyway, she got off easy. I tell my kids everyday that all their actions will cause something to happen. I guess she should have been left where she was with total disregard to others around her. (They don't matter... only her and her rights do... right?) Is she sitting in the street? Were other Americans and foriegn tourists/nationals put out or their lives interupted by her actions? I wonder how many other local crimes were committed while all these officers were here babysitting? I wonder if she'd care or even thought it far enough through for it to dawn on her? Do you think she knew this might happen before she did what she's doing? I wonder what the families and friends of the 911 victims would think of the officer pulling her ear (such violence!)? Well, all in all a good photo. Yes, a bit blurry but, looks like things were really moving here. It does evoke emotion which I'm sure was the intention. Kudos!

Ah, my favorite animal! Quite lovely! But, focus is off in many places... DOF troubles... But, still, a good capture of an elusive animal.

    Lions eye view

          6

This is great. The only distrating things I can see are of course the grass in the foreground (maybe had you waited a little longer he'd have moved his head a bit... or you could have moved yourself and found a "cleaner" perspective?) and the eye could be sharper. It's pretty important when trying to capture emotion through the eyes. Also, the mane looks like it could be a bit sharper.

    Best Wishes,

    Lisa

  6. I agree this photo has potential. But the lighting is off. Maybe, if you only had lighting enough for one lion, your focus should have stayed on just one. Especially since not only is the other lion too dark, it's also blurry. I hope you're carrying at least two spotlights with you after seeing that one doesn't always work well in such a dark, wild place. The warm hues are nice. Good luck.
  7. This is by far one of my favorite photos on this whole site! I'm so glad you caught it! Our close cousin didn't think much of you and your camera. I guess he's a Cannon guy himself. No accounting for taste. hehe I bet he's wondering what you're doing in that cage... Would seem to me that would be his perspective from the "inside". I guess it's better to be in his shoes now, than to have starved to death from habitiat depletion or to have had that animated hand sold as an aphrodisiac in some third world morketplace. and OH! The lynch mobs and illegal hunting... But a cage is a cage! I hate being caged here in this tiny planet myself... or being caged in a small cubicle in a workplace... I know how he feels every time I stare at the stars. But, it's all relative to how you want to look at it. Is a cage with bars worse than a cage of glass? silly... they're both cages... that's like saying a fish in an aquarium isn't so bad off... that too would be better than being caught in a net, on a hook, or die slowly and painfully from pollution... (but hey! That's what we're doing to ourselves!) Haven't gorillas been on the endandangered species list for a long time? The wilds are much more "wild" since we've been altering them. But, who knows? It's good to see that people are helping them breed while they "protect" them from the horrors of human evolution... or regression... or it's stagnant abyss.

    Kudos!

    Good Mood?

          8

This is great! Looks dirty but, the toungue sticking out makes that fit very well. The crop and framing is good too. It keeps the eye focused on the twisted and whimical mood of the shot.

    Kind Regards,

    Lisa

  8. I like the stars in this shot... seems to match the theme of Christmas. Maybe the street in the forground is a bit distracting but, it does show a scene of a modern day Holiday season.

    Kind Regardds,

    Lisa
