  1. Hi folks!

I have printed 40x50 cm for a photokina presentation of the copex material years ago. Therefore I bought a gery plastic drainpipe in the builders market for roundabout 3 Euros. These standard pipes are available with different lenghts. The tube has an inner diameter of 4 cm and a rubber ring inside one end as radial seal for the connection with the next pipe. The column of the MINOX enlarger has exactly 4 cm diameter. I only had to remove the head of the enlarger, then put the wire and the plug through the pipe, connect the plug again and then put the enlahead on top of the tube and fixed it a bit with tape. On the bottom plate of the enlarger I put an old back of a large picture frame. You know: these are sometimes made of this very stabil pressboard and keep flat and straight. I once had some digi photos of that construction but cannot find them right now - Martin: I guess I posted one or two in your yahoo group.

What is intereesting to know for self printing MINOXers: some enlargers model 3 have an extra extension part between the head and the bracket. This metal part enhances the distance between the column and the enlahead for some cm. My enlarger has been equipped with this metal part. Later on I bought a second enlarger which also has been equipped with this extension part. I can take a photo and post that for you. I never found any informations about this part as regularly available accessory.

    Kind regards, Marcus

  2. Does your enlarger have both chrome negative carriers? The upper one can be pulled out and often is lost when MINOX enlargers Model II are stored for years. This is a special problem of this model and the reason why many of those are out of function and offered on ebay or elswhere.

    regards, Marcus

BTW.: the minimum order amount of the minox online shop is 20 Euros and NOT 200 Euros! The shop is

@ Anthony: thanks for the hint about the german shop site opening via the minoxlab-link - I will fix that asap.

  4. Hi!

This is a first try to share a photo in this forum - I hope that works (otherwise I will retry later). I hope, you enjoy this picture :-)

It shows is me in front of the MINOX Museum vitrines with the UR-MINOX in my hands. The photo has been taken in may 2006 by Frank Hausmann of MINOX.

    Best regards, Marcus

*btw: the subminis are still handmade in Wetzlar, also the last 35mm cameras of the GT-S series. The GT-S is still available.

    Best regards, Marcus Dunkmann

  5. Hi Martin!

I do not know how old your films have been or how they have been stored before and after you bought them or what might have happened with the films during your journey to China and Cambodia...or what xray machines they have in Cambodia for checking luggage, the humidity and so on...

MINOX films have durability dates on their boxes - all films of all brands have these dates. As we all know, these dates are valid when a film is stored at 20 degrees Celsius.

The last MINOPAN I saw had "process before OCT. 09" on their boxes - so these films are useable until October 2009 if not stored at a hot place for example. I have never heared about a complain about fogged MINOPAN 25. All films are fresh when they leave the house in Wetzlar.

    Best regards, Marcus

  6. Hi Svante! There has been a run on the 100 ASA sorts and on the MINOPAN 25 during the last weeks - more films are in production and should be available in the shop again within some days.

    Best regards, Marcus

  7. Hi!

Lab8x11 does not do any services around black and white or slides. Lab811 (Carsten Chadt in Siegen/Germany) is only able to process color films. Northing else.

Shortly after Paarz lab in Gttingen/Germany had closed at the end of 2005 an individual service for 8x11 slidefilms and B/W came up.

MINOX offers the complete service around colorfilms but only passes through B/W-films or slidefilms to the new private b/w labs who integrated 8x11 processing into their program.

So customers can send their BW/films directly to these labs. What I do not know is if they offer service for customers all round the world... MINOXers who are interested should call them.

    Here are the adresses:

    1st adress:

    Fachlabor Andreas Borowy

    Bachstr. 22

    52066 Aachen

    Germany

    Tel: 0049 (0)241 - 400 9440

Andreas Borowy is the only one who offers slide development in a hanging machine - customers are happy about and with his service. He also offers b/w development and prints in different sizes. Andreas makes blow-up internegatives from the 8x11 b/w negatives on 35mm slidefilm and then prints these with a professional b/w printing machine. So he archives your internegatives and whenever you need additional prints, it is not necessary to send the originals to his lab. he will extend this service in the nearer future (copex development with nanospeed and so on..)

    2. adress:

    Fotostudio Ochs

    Borngasse 11

    35274 Kirchhain

    Germany

    Tel: 0049 (0)6422 - 4224

AFAIK Ochs only offers hand-made service so the prints have their price but should be of a very good quality.

    Best regards, Marcus Dunkmann

  8. Hi Keith!

In Germany, the only available films have 200 ASA (Ferrania and Fuji) - the Fuji Superia 200 film you can get in every city. The exposure lattitude allows to use the matieral with the fixed settings of the pocket cameras. The last films I bought are durable until october 2008. I also like my Pentax auto 110 and took pictures with several lenses during the last months.

There are some ebay-sellers in Germany who offer these films. Have a look at ebay.de

    best regards, Marcus

  9. Hi Martin!

MINOPAN is definitely not discontinued by the MINOX company. MINOX still offers MINOPAN 400, MINOPAN 100 and MINOPAN 25. MINOX also offers color films with 100 and 400 ASA speed.

    Kind regards,

  10. MINOX still has GT-S cameras and parts and these cameras are still available. I am actually offering the GT-S set including the FC-S flash. What I can't get anymore is the GT-E II. I bought the last available one for a customer last year. Might be that some dealers have them in stock but they are definitely out of production.

    Regards, Marcus

  11. I would only recommend 35mm cameras up from GT - most problems appear with cameras which have an "L" in the name as far as I know. But: two of my tree GT models had to be sent to the service because the light meter (CDS-cell) had to be fixed/adjusted (underexposure), one had the described shutter problem. If they once work, those cameras will give pictures with an outstanding sharpness and they are easy to carry because of their size. The film speed can be set manually up to the model GT-E / GT-E II (this is important for ambitioned black and white photographers. The most interesting models are the GT-E and GT-E II because of the body shape, the included skylight filter in front of the lens and the possibility to set the distance down to 70 cm (GT= 90 cm) for close-up-photography. Those models also have bluecell-lightmeters which do not have to be serviced even after years. The battery replacement of MINOX has the name "35mm PowerPack" (prod.number 69106) costs 24,90 Euros in Germany and is a battery holder with an attached lid for the battery chamber of the 35mm cameras. It also contains two lithium batteries CR 1/3 N.

A GT on german ebay sometimes is available for 55 Euros but one always has to face the fact that an expensive service could be necessary, a GT-E sometimes goes for 130 or 150 Euros. GT-E II with soft touch finish is hard to get because only a few have been built.

The actual and still available new 35mm camera is the GT-S with a silver finish. The GT-X (formerly GT-D - only produced 1995 for some dealers before the name GT-X had been printed on the bodies) and the GT-S have a DX-code reader and the manual setting of the speed is impossible.

    Regards, Marcus

  12. Hi! Surely the classic cameras have mostly been created to serve the collectors market. But: My experiences with those little replicas have been positive. If you would like to have a look at some of my b/w results, please have a look at my website:

    https://web.archive.org/web/20030517192846/http://www.8x11film.com/spur/bilderclassic.html

Those pictures have been taken with a MINOX CCC Leica M3 on sunny days - nearly all shots on the Copex and Delta Films were useable and gave results in the quality you can see on the page.

Even the three-glass-lens insinde the classics seem to have an acceptable quality.

    Regards, Marcus

  13. Sorry for advertising, but many people asked for enlarger bulbs for

the MINOX enlargers so this message might be interesting for some of

the users. The 6Amp version will soon be available in the U.S.

Original Dr. Fischer bulbs 6V/6A Ba15s socket for the MINOX enlarger

models II and III ar on their way to the United States and are

available at FotoImpex U.S. (also well known as J & C photography).

John also has my Jobo developing reels, all sorts of my new factory

loaded film emulsions and several SPUR developers.

    Best regards and happy MINOXing!
