An early model Canon Elph with APS film would do the job admirably, but I think they are discontinued. It is tiny, metal bodied, has many features, auto focus zoom lens and makes excellent images. Best, Bill

If you MUST use some product to make your camera water and salt repellant, I'd use a silicone oil rather than WD-40. The latter has solvent properties on some materials, which you will discover if you keep fooling around with it. Of course, apply the product with a soft cloth. DO NOT spray it on the camera and keep it off of glass surfaces, as it is devilishly hard to remove without using harsh solvents. Good luck, Bill

Fabulous pictures, Andrew! Thanks so much for sharing with us. Best, Billy

The M8 has a "quiet motor"? What for? How odd that a digital M needs a motor and my film MP does not! Bill

Last year I paid about $400.00 for a right angle viewfinder to accompany my 90mm macro lens. The whole thing, including the case, is about one cubic inch in size. I thought that was pretty rich, by the pound. But then, the macro adapter at over $800.00 was no slouch either! Best regards, Bill

While you're waiting for Solms to catch up, Zeiss has a nifty 28mm lens. I like mine a lot. Reasonably priced by Leica standards, as well.

I have a Mini Vak made by Belkin, it's AA battery powered, pocket sized and under $20. I believe I bought it at Office Max. It isn't very powerful, but it's useful. Best, Bill

Do you return the shutter speed dial to "B" when not using the camera?
That setting shuts off the battery circuit. Good luck,Bill

Have you checked Popflash?

I agree with John about the goggles. The Macro 90mm has 2 different distance scales engraved on the barrel. One is for normal usage and the other is for macro work. To engage the macro lens position, one must mount the lens "upside down" so that the red dot of the lens locks in position on the LEFT side of the body, with the MACRO scale on top and the NORMAL scale on the bottom. This arrangement is not available on the standard 90 Elmarit. If one can afford the breathtaking cost of the macro adapter, he needn't be working with Bessas, methinks! ;<)) Best, Bill

Alex, you have presented here on of the main objections to digital photography that has plagued me since the beginning. What do we do in the bush when our batteries die? I may dabble in digital, but I won't be letting go of my MP any time son! Best regards, Bill

If you can't find a plastic tip, ask about replacing it with a lever from M3 or MP. There is no plastic tip, the end is serrated and the piece looks a lot better, IMHO. Best, Bill

Velcro is available in self adhesive circular buttons. The pile (loop) side makes excellent padded protection and is easily replaced. best regards, Bill

Sad news for those who, after a long wait, received their DMRs only a short time ago. For seekers of collectibles, I believe MP'S would be a better bet for Leica collectors. Collecting anything electronic seems to be a really lousy investment. Digital is even worse, IMHO

I might send another letter saying that if he won't respond, everybody at photo.net will learn his name. The police may not be a bad idea at this point. Perhaps he's died! This post lacks just enough solid information to make it look like a troll. ;<))
Good luck to you, Bill

Try a FED! You may have to buy a dozen to find one in working condition, but you'll only spend a few hundred bucks for the lot. The optics are quite good and you can use Leica threadmounts as well.

I have dropped several meters in my life. They never worked aferward. Good luck, Bill

I must agree with other contributors here that the black ZI shown on RFF appears to have suffered from a solvent attack. Acetone is a good guess! In response to another writer, The Zeiss bodies are not plastic. Best regards, Bill
-
The ZI in silver finish is also painted rather than electroplated metal, but would show less wear than the black finish. My silver camera doesn't show fingerprints the way the black one pictured on RFF does.

The new ZI has the best viewfinder of any RF camera I've ever had!

I'm afraid I agree with Jerry on this one. You'd most certainly see when loading that the film had no emulsion; it's quite visible. Good luck, Bill

Check out the 8x42 Nikon Monarch ATB. It's fully multicoated, nitrogen filled, waterproof, armored, tack sharp, lifetime guaranteed and just $289 US when I bought them at Binoculars dot com. Best regards, Bill

It smells like a FED to me. The fact that it "survived Stalingrad" is enough to keep me away from it! Best regards, Bill

Les, I agree with Jim, above.
So, just what is so good about a Leica?
