Jenny, for me photos are an artistic expression, a balance between forms, colors and light, flash light doesn't work right, it make's the image overexposed with undesired shadows, the subject (model) has to be in a interesting position, projecting a message, an inspiration, also the background is very important.
So, you have to work more with all this factors if you want better results,
