  1. I agree, but just her allowing me to take a photo is sometimes a chore. You know the expression, "Uh oh, here comes Dad with the camera again..." But good advice, if she ever allows me to take pictures of her again :) I will keep them in mind. As to the burn and dodging, I am working on that in Photoshop, but I find I am not very good at it, but will try again, practice makes perfect...

My IR Digital workflow is as follows:1. I use a Hoya r72 filter on my Canon 50mm, many Canon Lenses have a IR coating on the edges of the lenses that create a flare in the middle of the picture, the 50mm 1.8 II does not, so I am sort of stuck at that focal length for now, although I hope by the end of the Week to have a Tamron 28-75 2.8, I have bought it just waiting for it to arrive.

    2. Because of the long exposures needed because of the Digital Rebel(DR) built in IR shielding on the sensor the less wind the better.
    3. Ok after you get the picture it is going to be reddish. So here is what you do.a. I use Auto color which creates sort of a sepia looking shot,
    b. Now open the channel mixer in Photoshop. On the red channel, flip the red and blue values, so set Red to 0% and Blue to +100%
    c. Now go to the Blue channel and flip the Red and Blue channels, setting Red to +100% and Blue to 0%
    d. Then I do what ever else needs to be done, curves or whatever, but usually it is just resize it for the web and apply Unsharp Mask. For a 640x427 at 72dpi I use 65%, 1.2 and 0 settings for USM.

  2. I know, I know, yet another flower photo. I realize this is not the

most striking example of a flower, but what I really would like is

some comments on my manipulation in PhotoShop. I played with curves

and levels to make it brighter than the original photo. The flower

looked like this before PhotoStop. Did I go to far, just

    right, or not enough?

  3. The sky is a bit too over exposed, but you did a great job exposing the building. Framing is good but I would have liked to see the building more to the right or left, rather than right in the middle. More to the left might be better than right, since the rocks look more interesting than what is to the left of the building.
  4. You did a very good job bringing us into this photo. The path next to the stream pulls me into the picture nicely. If you have a chance I would try taking a 2 or 3 second exposure to get a little softness in the water to show motion. I think that would make a nice photo much more dramatic. You may need to use Neutral Density filters to achieve that effect. Your light here is good and the scene is quite serene. All in all nice job.

  5. This was taken at the PA Ren Faire, she was one of the players in a

band playing Irish Folk Music, I just loved the outfit, and it

doesn't hurt that she is cute as a button. Comments are welcome.

    First Try

          1

This was my very first attempt at IR Photography, it is not great by

any stretch but it is interesting. The lens flare in the middle is

caused by the Kit Lens with the Digital Rebel, unfortunately every

IR photo I take with that lens has a flare in it. Sometimes it works

usually it does not. I am still working with my workflow. This was

not converted from RAW but JPG and it worked, sort of.

  6. It is a busy photo, but part of what I was trying to get was the bustle of the small tent where people were milling about. It was a quick picture taken just as the boy walked into the frame, as it were, in the mirror. I discussed cropping the left with the photography teacher that I was taking a class with at the time this was taken, and we decided to leave it as it is to put it into context as it were.

    IR House

I agree that the house is out of kilter so to say, I was just taking test shots. I was interested in adding buildings to my IR tests.

    But thanks for the input.

You could try a reflector maybe gold off to the right of the model. That would just take a little of the shadow off her check and lighten her up a bit. But I like the shadow too. I agree that you should keep the water blue.
