    What makes this photo for me is the boy (a brother, perhaps, and obviously not a ballet student) flying through the air in the backround. A nice capture.

    ...the autofocus has caught the sleeve of her left hand. When using a short depth of focus, usually, the nearest eye should be in focus. You have to focus on that eye, lock the focus, and then recompose the shot. The cropping of this shot is effective.

    ...of seeing photo album snaps of "cute" drooling infants poorly lighted and poorly photographed getting 5's. Somebody gave this photo a 3, in their apparent ignorance thinking that it was grainy and overexposed. To me, its a very good street photography, rangefinder-style shot, with the contrast of say 3600 speed film. I really like it, but I do note that RF-style photos as a whole tend not to fare well here.

    I do like portraits with very shallow depths of field, however, only Jason's ear is in focus. Usually, one would try for the frontal planes of the face, or more specifically the nearest eye to be in focus. The uncropped nose at the back of Jason's head and the blurred out light source in front of his head are distracting.
