  1. I just got two copies of a softcover book I made with them. It contains mostly BW photo's and it looks great.

Very high detail, peppie and sharp. The prints are not 100% BW, they have some dark brown tone. But it is hardly

    visable.

I think the color shots are a bit soft and shallow.

I live in Europe and it looks like the book was printed in Europe (it came from Switzerland), I only had to wait

5 business days to get it. Maybe they use a different press over here.

It is the best 'print on demand' quallity I've seen so far. Even better than the German Pixopolis, wich is

excellent (glossy pages) but very expensive.

There is one thing that I miss at Blurb and that is a strong marketing tool/package like Lulu books has. Like

    selling you book through Amazon.

    Have fun and shoot save!

  4. Hi Robert,

One site you don't want to miss in Santa Fe is the old railwaystation. It is a photographers dream. <br><br>

    Here's a link to the photo's I took there: <br>

    <A HREF="http://www.arny.nl/usa_santa_fe.html"> www.arny.nl/usa_santa_fe.html </A><br><br>

One thing not to miss in Canyon Lands is to rent a 4WD and drive the Shafertrail. It's fun and you'll find lot's of photo opportunities during the drive.<br><br>

    Have fun and happy shooting!<br><br>

  5. It took us three trips in three years to get lucky with the permit lottery. But last year we finally got lucky! And it was an unforgettable experience.<br><br>

The South Butties are a bit more adventurous. You really need a 4WD to explore the big area. Laurent Martress book "Photographing the South West" has some good advice on locations and routes. Also the books by Michael Kelsey are a good read with lots of good maps.

  6. Congratulations, your work is amazing!<br><br>

But I don't think a google-imagesearch will find them. The websitedesign you use is "to difficult" for searchmachines. <br><br>

    Some tips:<br>

    - Give all the images a name that says what it is, like pianokeys_2.jpg<br>

    - Give all the images an alt-text with a short discription. Like <i>"photo of piano keys"</i>. Search engines spider alttext when they look for images. Alt text also show when your mousepointer is on the photo. Depending on wich webdesign tool you use, it is mostly very easy and doesn't require any html codes.<br>

    - a list of keywords in your metaname section of the header html helps too.<br>

    - use a spider friendly html code in your header text on your home (index) page, (just do a google-search for spidercommands).<br><br>

I hope the above is helpfull. Good luck!

  7. I'm a -4 presciption, so I can't use the diopter settings. If I could I wouldn't use it, since I can't see my surroundings without my glasses and would miss some nice snapshots.

But what I hate is that I need some new spectacles every year, because the dust and sand seems to stick to the rubber of the viewfinder. And it scratches my glasses really bad!

I know I can remove the rubber, but since I've done that during a concert and a stagediver broke my glass completely, I don't don't know what to do...

  8. Aachen is about 20 minutes to Maastricht, Netherlands and about 40 minutes to Roermond. Both towns are very nice, historical places, with old churches, cathedrals en a architectual style that is very different to Germany. Especially Roermond is worth a visit, nice, compact and with lots of friendly people.

    <br><br><i>

Here are two links for Roermond:<br></i>

  9. Hi Thomas,<br>

You really need a 4x4 to make this trip with some good sturdy tires. Check if you have a good spare too. <br>Check the rangerstation at Furnace Creek (just after the gasstation) and ask them for roadconditions. They are very helpfull! <br><br><b>But if the Racetrack is wet, stay off! Don't walk on it, your footprint will be visible forever. </b><br><br>

If you have a good map (AAA of Parkservice for free at the rangerstation) it is really easy to find, even in the dark. late afternoon is the best light to photograph the moving rocks.

But you have to find them first! Just do a google search for them! Or drive to the last parkinglot (to the south and just go up the playa to the east).

<br><br> Don't forget to bring an old teakettle to leave at Teakettle junction on your way to the racetrack!

    <br><br>

    Have fun and be carefull!<br><br>

    Greetz,

  10. Berk,

    Again, thank you very much!

I will buy a extra memory card here at home.

But you mentioned that I can find some good b/w film in istanbul, well I was looking for that too (it is hard to find some good fims where I live for a good price!

So I'm gonna look for the shops you mentioned and check them out!

    Greetings,

    Arny

  11. Hi I'm flying to Istanbul for a short vacation/photoshoot next week

friday, and I'm looking for a good photo-equipment store. Is there a

store where I can get some SanDisk flash II memory cards for a good

price? Do I have to bargain over the price?

    Thanx in advance... <br><br>

And sorry that I didn't mention this in my earlier request about

    Istanbul.

  12. I bought the Dual Scan IV for 280 euro in Holland last year. Never regret it. The 3200 dpi scans at 16 bit are highresolution enough for big prints, even up to A2!

De scansoftware is excellent is has a automatic/easy function for newbies like you, where the software does the job automatic.

But you can do it the hard way/manual too, if you want more control. Another great function is batch scan, where you can set the scanner to your prefered options and let it scan complet strips (up to 6 negatives) automatic. Saves time.

The colours are great, but you can change it in the scanprogram after previewing.

The only negative is the dustremoval program. But if you have scratchy negatives full of dust, no authomatic program can beat old fashioned retouching in Photoshop.

I own a digital SLR (dynax d7) by now, but still shoot films with my dynax 7. No digital camera can tip a good black and white film.

Oh, one tip, if you want best results scanning black and white negatives, scan them as a colour positive. Reverse the file in photoshop and use channelmixer to change it to black and white.

  13. Hi,

My wife and me are visiting Istanbul early March. Allready planning to

visit the "highlights" like Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Bazar, Topkapi

    Palace, etc.

But does anyone have some insider tips? I've heard that Ortakoy just

next to the hanging bridge over the Bosporus is really a nice photo-op.

Also planning a daytrip up the Bosporus, wich places to get of the ferry?

Trying out my new Dynax 7D for the first time but also planning to

shoot B&W film with my old anologue Dynax 7.

Thanx alot in advance for your tips!

  14. RIMROCKS!

A couple of miles from Page, on the highway to Zion, you'll find lots of rimrocks. A short hike from the US89 gets you to a place that looks like another planet!

If you want the precise location of these hoodoo's, go and visit the Paria Information Station, which is in Utah, 30 miles northwest of Page on US 89 near Milepost 21. The best rimrocks are only a mile back to page from the Station.

Here are some photo's of this beautifull place:

  15. I would not charge much for this job. Remember they are promo-photo's, so they will much likely be published in magazines, fanzines, websites, etc.

So make a deal that when they use the photo for publishing that they have to put your name under the photo or in the lead of the article.

In your photos and your name will have a much bigger audience. So it's easier to build a name and get new customers (like magazines) this way.

I used to do this a lot and got lot's of pubished photos that I would have gotten if I had approached the magazines with my portfolio. Nowadays they contact me for photojobs and livecoverage. I still don't make much money of it, but it gets me free concerttickets and cd's.

So give it a try. Oh, and try to get a copy of every magazine that publishes your photo's. The recordlabel mostly gets some copys when they have a review or interview in the magazine. So you can put that in your contract.
