While Stieglitz (and Steichen) may have veered away from Pictorialism to promote 'straight' photography, one of Stieglitz counterparts, Clarence H. White did not. He continued the traditions well into the 1930s (he had his own school which finally moved to Ohio). You'll see some of the same styles of lighting effects even longer in Hollywood. Karl Struss was a part of the Stieglitz and White circle in NYC before leaving for Hollywood, where he became a very well known and respected director of photography. His lens designs and many other soft-focus lenses of that period are currently experiencing a revival... reaching cult status. Try a search for a Struss Pictorial Lens or Pinkham & Smith.

look for books on White, Struss, Colburn, Kasebier, Baron de Meyer... a very interesting period of photography

go out in any city or rural area with traffic, equipped with a wooden view camera (the bigger the camera, the more frequent the questions) and you'll be explaining it isn't an antique about ten times an hour... of course, my definition of antique is pre-1900 ;-)

Does anyone else think that as Annie gets older, she resembles Avedon more and more... in appearance I mean?

I too am bothered that a recent graduate hasn't strong digital skills. But, in a "crash course" direction, take a good intro to digital photography course at a community college. Next up is a course dedicated purely to lighting. Then get every CA magazine you can lay your hands on, and analyze the images. If you can't figure out how those images are made, it's time for an internship, Don't ask for help from pros, ask to work for them for free (if necessary).

I was searching for info on international ebay shipping and (luckily?) found this thread.
I'm selling an expensive view camera and had a potential buyer from Bulgaria ask about a "gift" or a "lower value" declared. I'm not 100% comfortable (who cares, right?) with the lower value option if it will impact my required insurance value.
Will the declared value for customs trump the insured value I pay for with shipping? I'm planing to use Express Mail International.
I suppose anything I sell for less than what I perceive is the current market value is a gift, right? ;-)
Why not either discontinue the "auctions" option, or make the rules clearer/easier to find? ...it might make your job here less of a burden
I'd argue it isn't advertising for ebay, since it's a service for selling between idividuals like me and other camera users. In the end, if you don't like something going on within the forums, make it more clear. I'm all for rules to navigate the forums, as long as they're availble to me without resorting to asking questions and waiting for a reply.

Is there a set of guidelines or rules for the classifieds section? I posted an ad for an ebay
auction, trying to maximize my exposure. I got a comment (not a response to the item)
that it was improper etiquette to post such an ad without first offering it for sale on
Photo.net.
I've paid my membership, is there more I'm supposed to do... how am I supposed to know
what is proper etiquette?
(personally I don't know how people find the time to police the world as they do...)

I've gotten a Universal press system that has a 150mm lens with
several extention tubes attached. They have inscriptions, No 1, No. 2,
etc. The No. 2 has a "set screw" and a bayonet base. All except the No
2 seem to be a screw threaded design. It (2) is currently attached to
the lens and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to detach it.
Anybody with experience with this?

A seller by the name of "collect888" seems to have some sizable stock of tech pan film, 14.99
for 35mm and 19.99 for 120. SInce I don't particularly have a need for my remaining five rolls
of 120, I'd consider selling them for $15.00 each. If anyone is interested, please email me
privately.

Well gee, I guess nobody knows about HSI 4x5. Oh well.
Say J.S. you should leave a note somewhere about how expensive all that Tech Pan film is,
just in case you get run over by a truck ;-)
-
Has anyone seen any recent sale of Kodak's (discontinued) HSI sheet
film? I ask because I'm considering selling off about 100 sheets to
help finance other projects.
I was shocked to recently see the price of 120 Tech Pan film go for
15.00 per roll on ebay, and thought I might use some of this film as
virtual currency.

Thanks folks,
...like I said I had to ask, but alas it will remain on my film-shooting Bessa-L.
-Darryl (now looking for a good deal on a Contax Zeiss 18mm...)

I had to ask after looking at many, many websites with lots of links to lots of other lenses. I'm
ready to assume the use of a leica screw to M42 screw added to an M42 to EOS adapter is not
possible, but (really) I had to ask.

Try these

and

I have a 35mm apo-grandagon, purchased in a helical mount. It has the 67mm thread. I don't know why the lens would have been modified... try asking Calumet.
cheers

I owned one of these for many years, a very good lens, but not a great lens. It had some edge softness that I could notice, especially shooting architecture. These were mostly for smaller Linhof Technika (and other Linhof) cameras. Is your lens in a Linhof shutter?
It's no Biogon, but it is fast and decently sharp. I think I got around $400 for the lens, but that was a couple of years ago... had to have an Apo-Grandagon.
