  1. Ouch! I just tried to purchase it and this is what I get...

    International Manufacturers Restrictions

Due to the manufacturers restrictions, B&H Photo is unable to ship the following item(s) to an international destination:

    Nikon NID200

D200, 10.2 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera (Camera Body)

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Please click on the link below to go back to your cart and delete the item(s) or select a USA shipping address before proceeding to check out.

I just tried to order one over the phone and they are closed... just my luck, I had my shopping all ready too.

  2. Shun your last post, actually made me chuckle. I guess I was sounding quite whinny. Anyway, thanks for your comments. I too am quite cheap, hence my preference for buying equipment in the US instead of in Canada simply because the market is larger. If I could just order the camera, along with the SB800, grip and extra battery and know that I could have it shipped in a week or two, then I could plan a trip to the US, bring it back to Canada and this entire trip cost and the cost of the camera in the US and items would be cheaper than buying it in Canada with 15% tax... oh Canada!
  3. to be honest guys, I don't like the idea of a waiting list. That's what my whole complain is about. I do understand that there is a higher demand then supply can meet and I do understand about the premium people pay to get the goods first. My complain is not about how micro economics work, but more about the marketting strategy of Nikon (if any). Nikon is not necessarily a small company, albeit, smaller then it biggest compeitor (Canon). Based on previous sales of the D70 and the D2X and other "hot" items, they should plan things out better so that it's loyal customers like me do not have to wait so long just so I can give them my money. That doesn't mean I want to pay extra either, nor care to buy other items just so I that I can buy what I want from them.
  4. haha actually I don't... look - I hope I'm not offending any one here by my post. It's just frustrating you know? Remember what it is like to want to wake up in Christmas morning and you just want to get at your presents. Well, this D200 body is a treat to me for all the hard work I have done, so I can surely feel that way I do. Do you wonder why there are so many of these kits around? Perhaps it is because people like me who already have more then 3 or more lenses do not need it.
  5. Well, I guess I should have clarified in my original post/ But yes, many of you guys are correct. There are kits available, but I don't need that lens nor want to fork out a premium on top of the what the suggested retail price is. I am this eager to buy this camera because I do have shoots that pay lined up and I don't like the idea of having to rent bodies right now. Plus also, the fast I get my hands on one, the faster my learning curve will end.

Another problem is that I'm in Canada, and non of the well reputed camera shops that I usually deal with have them in stock.

  6. Ok this is more of a personal rant, but I'm just wondering who else is

tired of checking websites every single day, or tired of waiting for

thier D200 order to arrive? I've been checking eagerly every single

day for the past few weeks in the BB and CC sites and have been

checking on a consistant basis bhphoto and adorama for since December.

I'm so eager to get my hands on what will become my first Nikon DSLR

that it is making the experience bitter... so anyone else?

  7. I was expecting Canon to release a new DSLR that would be targetted against the D200... 30D? but based on the specs for the 30D, it seems that the D200 is still on top. How likely is the release of a Canon 30D gonna affect the price of the 200D? What do you guys think? You know I haven't been this excited about a Nikon DSLR for a long time... except for the D2X which I clearly can't afford.
  8. Very interesting announcements from Nikon I would say. I was just thinking about the 105 AFS VR Micro lens. Certainly from the specs, it sounds like the most feature packed medium length macro lens offering from any of the other brands. A 70-300 AFS VR would be great too. In fact, I like that idea of anything AF having SWM and VR in them as long as the cost factor isn't ridiculous. I do agree that in cases there is no need for VR, but AFS is great.
  9. Larry! Beautiful shot! I have shot many great shots from Zoos. I just never thought about asking for any money from them. Seeing how most of the zoos I visit are already quite underfunded, I agree that just getting credit for the usage of the photo should be gratifying enough. They may be able to use it on their website or their brochure cause it's a beautiful moment that you captured.

Just wondering about your approach to your shot. Did you have to wait a long time before you captured this moment or was it just one of those snaps? I find that shooting animals can be quite exciting but also quite challenging as you almost have to predict what the subject will do next. Either way, great job on the shot!

  10. yes I also recieved the email about CC having one in stock. But I didn't jump on it due to being a Kit. If Nikon can start supplying more stock now then that's a good sign. Or at least make it so that people don't have to wait so long after the place an order.
  11. sorry I'm confused... Why would the "KIT" be more expensive then to buty the D200 + 18-70mm lens separatly? Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?

Also, I have a bunch of lenses already, I'm not sure if I want the kit lens even though I have heard good things about it from people.

  12. Hi guys,

I know that D200s are very much back ordered, but have any of you

placed an order for one from any of these two sellers? If you did,

how long of a rough wait time did you have to endure before they

shipped it to you? 2 weeks? 4 weeks? 6 weeks?

I think I'm really to finally ready to jump in the digital SLR world

and place an order for a D200. Thanks.

  13. This answer is simple. F100. just do a search on it and read all the pros people have been talking about it. All I can say is that I do love mine and think you will love one also. You just pretty much have to test one out to see what we are saying. Solid build. All the goodies of the bigger brother F5 in a smaller package. Awesome AF. Ability to have vertical grip and usage of AA batteries are a treat also.
  14. My film of choice for weddings is UC400, I shoot a lot with NC160 and I find the colors to be less "punchy" then a lot of pictures out there that are "vivid". Mind you, it could be your scanning. how are you scanning your negs? what kind of color correction are you doing after the scanning... Don't think that a simple scan is going to give you the exact color of what is captured on the film. Clearly it's a two step process right? post a sample
  15. Anthony, I understand what you are saying but if you think about it...it really doesn't make sense to manufacture one. Even if they did make a Monochrome DSLR... it wouldn't be able to replace the a film slr that you can choose the type of b&w film. meaning that with an slr, I can choose to shoot tri-x, or apx100 or hp5+. Each film gives me different grain and different look. Do you want a manufacturer to produce a sensor that will give you those different "looks" in digital BW?

This is why DSLRs are mainly colour cause in digital, you can desaturate or convert to BW in the way you want and still choose to have the data of color in the capture image.
