1.
Glenn I don't know whether all programs label and group the data the same but using IrfanView the shutter count is labeled "Total pictures" and is located in the next-to-last grouping that starts with "Maker Note (Vendor)". It is the last entry in that group of data.

 2.
Tim I'm sorry to get you into all this hassle about your movie career. I suspected all along that you were not the one and same Tim Holt featured in THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE. But I thought maybe you were a distant relative or something.
But I'm still betting that the charger is your problem.

 3.
I hate to repeat a theme but I've had a D50 with two recent Nikon batteries and now I have a D90 with two more recent Nikon batteries. I'm not very careful about when to recharge them and I've never had a problem. So if I had a chronic battery problem I think I would look at the camera or the charger. Most likely the charger. It seems to me that the camera could only discharge the batteries which wouldn't normally cause damage. But if the charger is overcharging the batteries then it could be causing all kinds of havoc.
I don't know what kind of test might indicate whether the charger is the problem but I expect that chargers can be had for about the same price as batteries. Maybe you should buy, or better yet, borrow a charger and see if that solves the problem.
And Tim I can't help this. I loved you in "The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre".

 4.
Roger I just tried my D90 and mine works just as yours does. With the timer on I get a 10 second delay but with both the timer and remote on I get about a 2 second delay. With the remote only on the shutter fires more or less instantaneously. So the timer creates some delay but not the full 10 seconds.

PS. This is discussed on page 68 of the manual.

 5.
I've bought a couple of lens from KEH and both were as advertised. And they have a return policy as been discussed. I would be very hesatent to buy anything of real value on ebay or one the other auction websites.

 6.
I've had my SB-800 a couple of years now and have used it extensively with both a D50 and now a D90 without any issue. However this past weekend I experienced some sporadic firing sometimes when I turned the D90 on with the SB-800 in standby and sometimes when I turned the SB-800 on when the camera was already on. No big deal but I'm wondering if something is going south either with the SB-800 or the D90.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

 7.
Doug I can't resist showing this. It's of Emerald Bay in 1963 taken on our first visit to CA. Nothing much has changed. Except that today's cameras are a lot better.

00UPdG-170215684.jpg.497dbfa5c736a6d45aef2dfb093fd4d0.jpg

 8.
We just spent a week at Lake Tahoe gaming, eating and sightseeing in that order of priority. I managed to take about 150 photos and I'm still amazed at how bulletproof modern DLSR's are. In the old film days I was lucky if 50% of my results were technically OK. With the D90, though, I had only a couple of photos where the camera didn't properly compensate for my deficiencies.
An example of Lake Tahoe scenery is attached.

00UPbS-170195584.jpg.059de6bf9250c927e0548f9ac8338202.jpg

 9.
Brooks what you say is correct but photos look pretty darned good on a 46" HDTV at 1080i (which is what the D90 provides) when viewed from a reasonable distance.
Back in my working days our company did a study to determine how many pixles were enough when the whole image was viewed from the optimum distance. The answer came out to be 1-2 megapixles. That answer sounds low but the fact is that resolution is more important for zooming in or printing large format prints than it is for veiwing a slide show on a HDTV. So unless someone is going to get 6" from the screen then 1080i is going to look fabulous.

 10.
I have found on both the D50 and D90 that unless I use the single point focus mode I get many out-of-focus images. On the D90 I have simply selected the center point and locked the focus with the focus lock switch to make sure that the selected point doesn't doesn't inadvertantly get changed.

 11.
Robert I've only made a few videos with my D90 but have had no problem playing them with both Windows Media Player and RealPlayer. I'm running Win XP though, not Vista.

 12.
My camera bag is falling apart and needs replacement. What I've got to carry is
1. D90 with 18-70mm DX lens in soft pouch
2. 55-200mm lens in soft pouch
3. 90mm Macro lens in soft pouch
4. 50mm lens in soft pouch
5. SB-800 in pouch
6. D90 charger and spare battery, miniature tripod and miscellanious stuff.
I'm looking for a carry bag not a backpack bag.
I've looked at the usual suspects (Adorama, B&H and Amazon) but I can't really get a feel of what bag fits my needs.
Any suggestions?

 13.
I've been a Photoshop Elements user for a long time. But I must say that PSE6 & PSE7 are not Adobe's greatest efforts. They take forever to load and the user interface is not nearly as friendly as PSE3. Too much crap.

I'm stuck with PSE6 or 7 since the camera raw plug in for the D90 doesn't work with any PSE version prior to PSE6.

I'm afraid Adobe is following the model of Microsoft. More and more that works worse and worse.

 14.
Patrick I have some recent experience here with a D90 but I'm hesitant to reply since there is a good chance I don't know what I'm talking about. But here goes anyway.
Our grandson recently graduated from college and the event was held in a fairly well lighted colleseum. We were a fair distance from the action (100-150 feet) so I used my 55-200mm F1:4-5.6 VR DX lens at 200mm with a SB-800 flash even though experts on this forum say that the SB800 had little effrect at my distance. The ISO was at 800. I got some pretty good shots (attached). For whatever it's worth.

00TZAO-141077584.jpg.c880d7304f6cd5bff83db6181e997d4f.jpg

 15.
Berg I have a NIKON D90 and as far as I am concerned any NIKON D90 issue belongs on this forum.
I've been editing video and making DVDs for many years now with miniDV video. I'm comfortable with miniDV but I'm obviously not up to speed on all the HDTV video editing applications.
Adobe Premier Elements 7 is my first encounter and I must say it sucks. I bought it packaged with Photoshop Elements 7 since the package was only $5 more than PSE7 alone. I think I wasted my $5. It's bloated and takes forever to load. Any worthwhile application would advise you that you need another plug-in and would offer to install it. Not so with PE7. It just gives you a crap answer.
In the meantime Elliot's recommendation to try the AVS software is much appreciated. I've downloaded their video editing application and it's very refreshing compared to most modern applications. It's not bloated, it boots promptly and it does everything that I want, at least right now. I can open D90 video, edit it (including transitions, text, and all the things you would expect) and convert it to whatever format is needed to go to DVD.
So I'm deleting PE7 and don't intend to install it again.

 16.
I'm sorry but I should have restricted this to a Windows application. I did find a phooto.net article dicussing D90 video editing with Apple's video editing application. But i don't have an Apple.

 17.
I have been experimenting with the video function on the D90. The highest definition D90 mode is 1280X720 which is 720p in HDTV jargon. I have Adobe Premier Elements 7 which can handle 720p HDTV. But when I try to import D90 video into PE7 I get an error message about "unsupported audio format". I believe that this is due to the fact that the D90 produces monaural 8 bit audio whereas the 720p standard is 16 bit stereo audio.
Does anybody know of a video editing application that will accept D90 video? D90 video is going to be somewhat worthless, at least to me, without the ability to edit it for incorporation into whatever final media format that I choose.
