After wasting a fair number of moon shots during the night of the
total eclipse, I convinced myself and installed the Wasia hack in
order to get a working MLU... tonight I tested the usefulness of this
feature.
I shot a bridge at night (8sec exposure) 5 times without MLU, and 5
times with MLU and a programmed delay of 3 and 6 seconds.
This is an unprocessed 100% crop of a shot without MLU:

This is an unprocessed 100% crop of a shot with MLU and a 6sec delay:

Other interesting notes: the two 5 shot group produced consistent
results, and there is no apparent difference between 3s and 6s MLU
delay. Finally, I also tried repeating the same tests using a cheap
Slik tripod, and the difference is amazing! No MLU and then MLU(6s)
are here shown:

I really couldn't be happier about the FW hack...thanks Wasia!
Hope this helps,

I tried this lens for a day, more or less a year ago, on a EOS Elan: very sharp lens, but I didn't buy for 1) slow and noisy focusing 2) price (the shop that had it was selling it for $375) 3) rotating front element. I ended up getting a 70-210 f/3.5-4.5 for less than half the price, and I'm very happy with it...

Works perfectly now. Thanks

First of all a good news: the voltage in those countries is the same (220V, 50Hz). Now the bad news: the power outlets for those three countries are all different! You should look for universal outlet adapters, I would start looking at Fry's

Hi Bob, if I try following the link I get the html code (NS7.1)

You already have a 100-300, so I would discard the 100-300/5.6L,
get a Tamron SP 1.4x or equivalent and start saving for a used
300/4L
Cheers,
S.

Did anybody ever try using a tamron/kenko 1.4X, either SP or non, with an EF 70-210 3.5/4.5? I'm using it with a 300D, and I'd like to get to
the 400mm equivalent reach... thanks!

I got one not too long ago for $75 from a local store, it had
an issue with the dial but it was pretty easy to fix (even
if opening a camera for the first time made me sweat a little...).
The real problem I had is/was with the shutter bumper: last summer
I had to leave the camera in my car, and the heat must have caused
the rubber to become sticky... a lot of patience and q-tips + ethanol
seem to have done the trick though.

Did anybody have good experience with newegg.com?
They are listing the 300D with the kit lens for $950, free shipping
