  1. I didn't say the ist D/DS is BAD.

But, the MZ-S is such a good system that it is a step down to any of the two, accept for workflow.

What I would like to see is a pentax digital that is in the same class as the MZ-S, this system WILL beat a 20D.

The censor inside the 70D is actualy the same used in the ist-D (made by Sony).<div>00B1VW-21717084.jpg.f9d978051eab30352f4f88fc35ccf196.jpg</div>

  2. Hi,

A couple of years ago pentax launched the MZ-S and then showed the MZ-D with a full frame sensor based on the MZ-S body.

Now if only they would keep to their plans they would soon realise that there are a multitude of pentax users out there that would LOVE to go digital with the bags full of pentax mount lenses that they own.

Surely they have to realise that even, with an expensive new body, it is far cheaper for all the pentax users not to change systems.

I for one am not happy with the ist-D/DS and would even like to see something closer to a Nikon D70 or (may I beg!!) a Canon 20D!

In the mean time, Pentax is fast asleep.

  3. Thanks for the replies,

I was woried that the bulk of the lens would be a problem.

My second second choice will be the 24-70/2.8 plus the 70-200/2.8, but with a 645 to lug around as well, the setup may be too much.

I would like to put a 22mp back on my Contax645 (major$$$$) and use the two cameras as backup for each other. Now if Contax would bring out some more zoom lenses the 645 would be great all on its own, but for the lack of it I will have to add a system that does have proper zoom lenses and digital flexability.

    Thanks again.

  4. Hi all,

    Single body, single lens Question.

I'm not an owner (yet) of this setup, but would like to get feedback

on the lens handling (zoom speed, weight, etc.) in a wedding setup.

Is the 10x zoom an overkill?

My backup set is a 645 film camera with primes - too much $$$ for a

    digi-back as well! -.

    Regards

  5. Thanks for all the meaningfull responses.

For the rest.......you're all nice guys!!

Yes, photocell density in the Nikon is probably the main downfall of the system.

Most of my prints are 17x24in but about 15% of sales are 26x40in. All printed Epson 4000 & 9600.

Thanks again for the responses, I'm going to sit and wait until end of March and then let loose! (Until then I'll do some research Z ;-) )

  6. Charles,

Rent the systems or loan-use if you can, then decide. Every user will have their own likes and diss-likes.

No matter how old asystem is, if it's good it's good.

If you're just looking at the Mamiya and Contax - and the price is NOT an isue - the Contax (to me) feels right, performs right and is digital ready. The lenses are very good to great and well built.

With the adaptor for the Hasselblad Zeiss lenses you can use all the Hassy lenses on the Contax and by doing that also achieve high flash sync through their leaf shutters - if you know what you're doing.

The greatest advantage of the Mamiya is price, and that IS always an isue.

  7. Hi all,

I have waited until 2005 to turn over to full digital workflow. Until

now I scanned all my negs. Digital was restricted to travel

photography as a backup to my MF setup.

I feel now that the technology is mature enough to start replacing my

35mm setup with digital and in a while a digital back for the MF.

Unfortunately I will have to change systems since I was a Pentax 35mm

    user.

The system will be for studio portrait, product stills, and as a

backup (at first) for wedding work.

The budget will keep me to a body, 2 lenses, 2 flashes, xtra battery,

AC power adaptor, remote release, 2x memory cards - (nikon wireless?).

At this stage I'm leaning towards the Nikon product, I'm just too

much of an individual to be just another Canon user ;-)

But then everybody using Canon can't be wrong!

    Your thoughts please.

  8. Hi, moisture will condensate on ANY colder than ambient surface.

When you come in from the cold the moisture in the air will condensate on all exposed surfaces. The air inside the camera & lens will be cold too and therefore will not cause this to happen.

Sealing the equipment in a ziplock bag that you suck the air out of, should prevent this from happening, do this before going indoors.

A far greater problem is shooting in humid & warm conditions and then moving into a airconditioned room, condensation will then form inside the equipment.

Salt spray and sea-air have hazzards of their own because of the salt and its corrosive effects, no electronics will last long on the beach.

  9. The MZ-S will outperform ANY other Pentax 35mm camera. It is great to travel with. Great battery life. Add the battery grip and you will have a super camera.

I have used mine from desert to tropics with NO problems, landscapes to weddings to nature.

If only Pentax produced the promised MZ-D I would have stayed with the brand.

I will be parting with my MZ-S soon in favour of a DSLR, and I have a feeling it will be Canon.

Such a shame about my lenses and accesories though........

  10. Hi,

The MZ-S is a great film camera. It is not a F5 - you don't pay the price either - but maybe the best film camera that came from the Pentax stable.

You won't see many people asking questions here simply because of the camera's ease of use and reliability.

Pentax was suposed to bring out a full frame MZ-D a while ago and with this in mind I bought two MZ-S bodies about 3 years ago. Sold one a year ago because I didn't need the backup - the MZ-S was always reliable.

Hindsight is 20/20, and if I had the chance now........I would have bought a EOS 3, and switched the lenses to a Canon digital. Now I have a half dozen lenses that fit onto a Pentax body and I'm stuck!!

So the short of it. If you already own the lenses and you want a great film body - the MZ-S is great.

I don't think we wil see a high end film body from Pentax again.

  11. Rent all the systems and then decide.

Every other person here will tell you their own system is the best.

They have to, they paid for it.

My Contax is hardly dead, my Rolleiflex is just lovely, my Pentax never lets me down, my Nikon does stunning work, the Fuji uses Nikon lenses and is just great as a digital

I cry every day over my Sinar LF system that I sold - what did I leave out?

Oh yes, the camcorder and (may I say it!), the one time use ones I use on the beach.

    THEY ARE ALL TOOLS.

Find the best one for YOU, for each application.

  12. Where is it?

I'm simply not convinced by the istD or the istD-s.

Is it so difficult to put a 8mp sensor into a MZ-S body and give it a

5fps rate with a respectable buffer?

Add weather proofing and it will be a winner!!

What happened to the plans for the full frame MZ-D?

    Am I asking too much?
