The CIA has been getting sharp digital images for years, Thom!
-
Nice to see you've finally started putting Nikon optics on Nikon cameras, but I think it's really supposed to be Nikkor, not sure ....
-
-
Again, Thom T., unless he really did some work, I doubt he's using Canon optics ON HIS NIKON!
-
Thom, she's not using 'poor Canon optics' at all. You have to mix useful critique with useless equipment snobbery, why?
On the image, I think isolating this very nice flower buy recomposing and also reaching in and moving some foliage out of the way would make this a better image, but it is very pretty as is, and take what I say about composition with a grain of salt; I'm still very much a learner.

u is a single letter in the alphabet. You want one of these, maybe?

You're welcome.
About the picture, it does look a bit flat. Chemical companies have known how to formulate things that digital folks can and should probably learn to emulate. Try curves and local contrast enhancement.

If there was a lawn mower in the picture, maybe so. :)
Personally I like this one, but I don't know much, except what I like and what I don't. The color seems good on the web version, I bet it might be even more vibrant in a different medium.

I like it. It's foolish to try and judge the techincal quality of the image from a low resolution web image. I suspect, based on what photo.net does to my images, that the original was probably a lot nicer looking, but it's impossible to know. In any case, a very pretty valley.

In all fairness he seems to have a good eye, I think. It's his 'mouth' that is the problem. And then there is that 'German made' bias, basically nothing is worth using if it's not made by a few select brands. A marketers dream. As the saying goes, a poor craftsman blames (or credits) his tools.
I visited his photo-site (not only can he not spell, but the link is broken) and I actually liked a few of the images, although they were not anything spectacular IMO. Oh well. I think maybe he's a bored old man who has watched life and possibly now technology pass him and needs to try and regain some semblance of control.
Maybe I'll be that crotchety someday, but I hope not.

I don't fancy this one myself, but that's just my taste. This Tom Turk appears to have some sort of agenda - nearly every post from him is pimping a couple of photo stock sites and tearing into non-Zeiss tools. And he is too lazy or ignorant to actually spell out his words. Spell-check broken, Tom?
Where is YOUR body of work, Tom? For a guy with a big mouth your portfolio is conspicuously empty.
I know my stuff is mediocre at best and I'm learning, but I never claim to be a great artist. If you're such an expert, show something.

Did you try working in deeper bit depths, 12 or whatever the RAW file is?
-
I like this - The very nice landscape included in the shot brings it a step up from many others of this sort, for me.

I was walking along the beach and as I looked into the sun I saw 4
sisters playing in the sea with the sun at their backs, as a cool
fog bank started coming in. I tryied to capture the moment and
failed for the most part, although the picture is still pleasant.
Any ideas on what I could have done to make it better?
BTW - There are a series of shots, but in this one the eldest girl
is helping the youngest with her ensemble, I thought this was sort
of a touching moment, but it's probably not communicated effectively.
-
I might have tried to burn in the trees a bit, or even better, try to recompose so there is more silhouette, less brush and tree in the foregound.
But nice job being there to capture the moment, in any case.

It's not super original, so what? I like this sort of thing and the execution is very nice.
