  1. Cool shot, Pnina. I like the relative positioning of the woman and her shadow, with the emphasis of giving the shadow the full frame, and the woman less than half, with an abrupt crop above the waist. The monochrome colours and light are good too.

  2. Nice shot PT. I've found the toning discussions interesting. I like the combination of motion blur and the splashes of light. But I most like how you've used these effects, and the toning, to add to the dream-like quality implied by the woman's facial expression. You create a very effective mood with the image. I also like the choie of empty space above the model - the spill of light sets the mood for the image and gives a sense of freedom.

Very nice PT. Nails the theme, especially with the refelctions off the lines and the floor closer to the edges of the image. I like the recurring vertical and horizontal elements. The blurred figure and the bags add mystery and give the shot the all-important sense of an unfinished story.
  3. nah ... they just wanna shag.

it's kind of an almost shot. the furtiveness is great, both for the couple and the photographer. I like how the pillar divides the light and the dark, and how it's at a slight angle to the horizontal frame edges. but maybe things are a bit too centred? maybe the highlights on the left are too bright. guess I might like to see more grain, more gradual vignetting, and more bringing out the texture of the walls - so the viewer gets a sense of what it's like to be pressed up against them.

I like it - for the cropped body, the lead in from the lower right corner, the light and shadow on the curved foot, and the vignette type shadows on the left. Minor issues: I wonder if the image needs straightening (looking at the floor line against the wall), and whether the highlights on the left leg need some work. Best, Jeremy

Knicki's been prompting me to shoot phone and power lines, and the sun was out in Seattle for 3 days, so I've been line and shadow obsessed recently. Thus, both of your shots spoke to me loudly ;-)

Gotta love shadows. This works well too, with the complex relationship between the different lines and the seams on the sail, and the lines' shadows. Also like the quailty of the light and the upper blue triangle. The angle on the orange handle off teh upper right corner is effective too, and serves as a good anchor for the eye.

This works nicely. I like the mix of squared off curves - the stern shape and how it's echoed in the rails and cockpit, and the relation of the curved sail and the upper right hand corner crop. I also like the line running down the upper left - it adds interest to that part of the frame which otherwise might seem a little empty.

Nice, Robert. Like the clear colours, and how the light on the subject is hemmed in by the deeper shadows around the edges of the image, especially the shingles upper right. Makes a very effective atmosphere.

Nice, Alon. The b&w treatment from digital works well here - didn't make theink 'oh ... digital.' The light in hte black eyes works well with the blacks in the upper right hand corner. Best, Jeremy

I really like this shot. The placement of the sign and the jet trail work well, and the white line of the jet trail, the yellow and black of the sign, and the wood of the pole are simple and clean against the blue of the sky.

The simplicity of the composition makes a theme fit both difficult and easy. Because there's so little to play with, it's difficult to grasp the photographer's thoughts in composing and submitting the image. But because there's so little, it's pretty easy for the viewer to take whatever they want from the image. For my part, looking at the signs of pollution, I'd like to think how it could have been - just a plain blue sky. Not much of an interesting image though, and a lot less travelling.

    alaaf!

Actually I like the symmetry - it contrasts with the different expressions and body language of the two women, reminding me that people are individuals, even when their circumstances look identical. I also like the frame / wall / window frame (grey) / window frame (white) / 2 people / interior sequence.
  4. Like it. Plenty of dynamism with the woman leaning to the left and her right foot behind her. Her left lean seems to match the angle of the paving stones in the street. I like how these and the bottom of the walls create the sensation of two Vs facing each other on a vertical axis. The wide angle makes the woman a little dwarfed by her surroundings. I also like how the left hand wall seems so much more modern than the street surface and right hand wall - with the grafitti, it does away with any notion of charming that the older surroundings might suggest, and makes the image very contemporary.

    Exit...

Hi Pnina. I like it for the minimalism, the in-image crop on the body, the absence of a full face, the contrast of the harsh edges and the subject, the plentiful supply of very dark shadow and the light on the subject herself. I also like that the only two elements of the scene are a woman entering a space, and an exit sign - with the minimalism, this creates a nice tension, for me at least.
  5. Interesting forms. Think you're on the right track. From a purely personal perspective, I might try and lose the tree branches below the street lamp, and darken the sky and bring out the grain to try and make the atmosphere more oppressive, and bring out the light contrast in the sky.

Very nice Pnina - comp, light, colours and textures, epsecially the blue red and yellow. I especially like the blue in the upper left hand corner.
