  1. I have spent the last 15 years lugging my Hassie kit around Asia and the last 5 using a Lowepro Roadrunner(on wheels).I can cram my Hassie body w/back and 3 primes plus my digital w/two lenses.Included are filters, extra batteries, cable releases and up to 60 rolls of 120 film.My tripod can be attached to the side of the bag but I would not recommend this during airflights..too bulky. For just three weeks I would not think twice about bringing your Hasselblad..go for it!
  2. To answer your lasts post...I have 5 lenses that are either CF,CFE and FE plus the 205FCC.All are in mint condition without a scratch and even with the low prices of MF equipment today I would surely expect to get more out of them than just one Nikkor lens!...if not I will keep it for a spare and give it to my grand kids ha,ha!
  3. I think most of us who have used film for many years can see the obvious differences in the two mediums,I for one love the film characteristcs (color palette, less intense sharpness etc.)better than I do a digital capture and in my opinion nothing can beat a properly exposed Velvia tranny. But sometimes reality takes precedence over heart tugs and the cards fall where they fall.I have enjoyed reading your insights in this thread..much appreciated!<div>00Dw3e-26171284.jpg.a0880f9ad47e0efb2cfd5909e3786c28.jpg</div>
  4. Yes,99 percent of the time I will use the camera for landscape work only where I will always be shooting at the lowest ISO possible which I believe 100 for the D2X.From what I have read noise is not an issue at that ISO until you start using some serious slow shutter speeds like over 30 seconds..am I correct?
  5. From what I understand the CFi lenses have improved mountings across the board on all lenses..not just the 180.I have owned a 180CF for years with no problems ever and have never heard of any complaints regarding the mounts from anyone else who owns one but please correct me if I am wrong.I use this lens on my 205FCC all the time and the only noticeable difference between the CFE and the CF is that the CF does not transfer the aperture setting to the digital viewing screen for reference. This is irrelavent since YOU set the F stop manually anyway for both lenses.
  6. I sure appreciate your input guys,it means a lot.The ergonomic issue is a mute one for me since I already own various Nikon 35mm cameras plus a D70.I also own a Coolscan 8000 film scanner that I do all of my MF slides on with pretty damn good results in the fine mode.

Regarding the 'Look of the images'...Obviously I love Velvia with a passion but the inconvienance of packing the load and finding competent support really has become a heavy burden at least for my circumstances.So..I guess the only real issue is the quality of the images and does the extra 4mp of the Canon make that much difference?I am aware of the smaller sensor giving better DOF and for landscape DOF is everything all the time..so does this give an edge to the D2X?

  7. Correct me if I am wrong but my camera is a 205FCC and I do not believe the digital backs work on these models properly and I was planning on using the money from the sale to buy the digital camera. Thanks for your response.
  8. Lately I have been seriously thinking about selling my Hassie kit

and going to the D2X.I am a professional golf course photographer

and spend all of my time travelling around Asia and am tired of

packing my scanner, film plus trying to find competent labs to do the

processing for me...courier back and forth to the US is out of the

question. All of my clients demand high res files and I am frequently

asked to supply images for billboards.

My question to you is:Is the D2X a reasonable replacement for my

MF kit and will it be able to supply high enough res images for

decent billboard imagery?And...would the top of the line Canon with

the higher megapixals be a better choice? Please, just straight

    forward answers,thanks in advance.

  9. Bryan,I have shot hundreds of golf course images with my D70 and rarely find an image right out of the camera with colors to my liking...just the nature of the beast.I aiways shoot in the Aperture Priority mode using the RAW setting while adjusting the white balance to the circumstances at hand but knowing this can be tweaked in PS later easily.Polarizers and lens types can effect color clarity and density so be aware of the effects these might have on your end product.<div>00DJYl-25307284.jpg.7d51da3f444d7f14801c7e179f21a802.jpg</div>
  10. I do all of my own scanning on an 8000 and consistantly produce exhibition quality images at 30x40 and larger.I would highly recommend that the lab scan your images in the 'fine scan' mode to retrieve as much info as possible and eliminate the banding in the shadow areas that is common to this model.I agree with Simon..stick with the glossy paper to keep visual sharpness and clarity of color and tones. If you want something really special Binyuan you might try either metallic or cibachrome prints for an amazing 3D look and finish.IMO ciba prints are still the best but can be tricky with high contrast situations...good luck.
  11. I'm going to have to agree with Dave on this on Binyuan.I also have been using just a sharp pair of scissors for years with absolutely no problems ever. For storing my favorite slides I used to use the plastic Gepe glassless holders and put them in the heavy, clear plastic pages for easy viewing.Scanning requires any mounting to be removed prior to the scan.I have now stopped using the Gepe mounts along with the page holders because of the sheer accumulated bulk over time in regards to storage space. Now I just keep them in the sleeves...
