Hi,
Does anyone have experience with Falcon Eyes SS110b studio flash units? I have seen a
beginners' set for 250 Euro (200 USD). This contains two monoblocs, two tripods, a
softbox and an umbrella.

Very short answer: yes :-), that is, for the money. There are better wide angle zooms, but not at the price level.
If I look at your other lenses, I wouldn't be suprised if the Tamron outperformes your Nikon lenses.
An example I took with this lens can be found in my gallery on photo.net at http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?topic_id=1481&msg_id=0093qd&photo_id=2167708&photo_sel_index=0

Hi,
I am looking for a new telezoom. My shortlist consists of:
Nikkor AF 70-300/4.0-5.6 ED D (300 Euro)
Tamron AF 70-300/4.0-5.6 macro 1:2 (150 Euro)
Sigma AF 70-300/4.0-5.6 APO MACRO SUPER (280 Euro)
My current camera is a F801s (N8008s) but that will probably be
replaced with a D70 next year.

Which one do you suggest?

With Apple iPhoto you can export a slide show, including background music, to a Quicktime movie. Maybe something similar exists for PC as well.

Hi,
I have a Scan Dual III, and I have made some 12x18 prints and they look very good. Since
the IV has a better resolution than the III 8x12 should be no problem.

I have a Nikon F801s (N8008s) and there you can remove he focussing screen simply
lifting a spring with a small screwdriver. You can insert a new focussing screen very easy
by putting it in place.
So you don't have to be a mechanical wizard to replace a screen....

Thanks guys for all your contributions. Since I won't print B/W the traditional way anymore
(no room for a proper darkroom :-( ) I'll stick with with Portra and Velvia.
But I'm sure I will try the XP2 and BW400CN....
-
Currently when I want to make B/W pictures I scan colour negatives or
slides and process them in Photoshop. I am curious if using a C41 B/W
film like Ilford XP2 or Kodak BW400CN offers offers any advantage in
getting better quality B/W pictures?
And which one of the monochrome films is the easieast to scan with a
Minolta Scan Dual III?
Thanks!

I own a Tamron 19-35 and I'm quite happy with it. It has some distortion but I can live
with that. I am using it on a Nikon F801s (N8008s in the US), but maybe on a digital SLR,
the distortion is less noticable. It is a very sharp lens and, if you use the sun hood, offers a
good contrast For the money it feels very solid.

Why don't we just switch off our PC's and Mac's and go outside to take pictures.....

Currently I use a Metz 40AF-4N flash with my F801s. I understand that
if I use this flash with a D100 or D70, TTL flash is not possible. I
read somewhere (but I'm not sure about this) that a Fuji S2/S3
supports TTL flash with "older" flash units (i.e. the Fuji behaves
more like an F80/N80 than the D100/D70). Is this correct?
-
I have downloaded the manual of the D70 (don't know the link anymore; I'm sorry). In the
specification section it says: "Optical fixed pentaprism". But I also read about it being a
mirror prism.

I don't think you need a card reader. When you connect the camera to your Mac, you'll
probably see the camera on the desktop (when I connect my Sony I see a picture of a Sony
Memory Stick). You can treat this as an external drive. So just drag and drop the files from
the camera to a folder of your choice....

Hmm, a lot of noise indeed. I have the same scanner and have never experienced this
much noise.
Can you give some more details about scanner settings, used film etc.?

I have a Metz flash unit with my NIkon F801s (N8008s). Will this be compatible with
the D70?

If you use Toast to burn CDs you can select a hybrid format, so the CD will be readable for Mac and PC.

Ink usage
in The Digital Darkroom: Process, Technique & Printing

I have a Canon S900 and I don't notice any major differences in ink usage per type of paper. Just use the type of paper that suits you best!
