  1. I love the lighting and her pose is perfectly suited for the image. The one thing my eye keeps coming back to, however, is her location in the frame. Having her vertically centered in the picture is a bit problematic for me.

Since the water is cascading down into the holding pond under her, I think this image might be just a bit stronger (than it already is) if you had raised the lens a bit to put her closer to the bottom of the frame and shown more of the stream and rocks above her.

But that's a minor composition point - this is still a wonderfully executed image.

  2. Beuatiful image. I think you did a fantastic job of metering this, since there is still a lot of detail visible in the darker areas without the hottest spot being blown out (it's a bit high-key on the sun-facing rocks, but not distractingly so). - 6/6
  3. I love the sepia tone in this - it adds warmth to a scene that is barren. A wonderful effect. My only observation is that there seems to be some vignetting around the edges. Well done - 6/7

First, I like the shot and the angle a lot.

However, it took me a moment to realize that the dark "river" was actually a ridge. Because of the bright light of the sky and snow-cap, the ridge and details of it are lost. Next time, you may want to try a ND filter to bring the contrast within range of the film.

"Haunting" is an appropriate word to describe this. I love the lighting, particularly how it accentuates the detail on the tree trunk in the foreground. 7/7
  4. THIS is wonderful example (IMHO) of good b+w. The contrast is strong without being overpowering, and the light sand is metered perfectly - the sand is white without the sky being black.

The only item I would point to would be to not have the horizon run across the center of the image. You could actually get two very different images out of this; crop just about the shrub, so that the horizon (and sky) only take up the top third and then just below the shrub so that the focus is on the sky and the shrub adds some depth.

Just my thoughts. BTW, great job on keeping the horizon level.

I really like how you framed the shot and that my eye is drawn along the water.

My only observation is that the scene seems (to me) just outside of the contrast limits of the film (the rocks on the left are a bit too dark and the sky a bit too light). Use of a Neutral-Density filter might have brought the image within the film's range and given a more balanced tone.

  5. Nice job metering the snow. Did you use infrared film? I would expect the sky to be darker if you had (almost black) but the contrast of the frost-covered limbs against the trunk is why I'm asking.
  6. I love the colors of the sky and the two surfers are perfect. I think you've captured the moment wonderfully. The only aspect that i would point to that could be better is that the horizon is slanted to the left, giving a slightly 'off-balanced' feel.

Other than that, it's a beautiful picture.

  7. I like this - whimsical and fun. My only technical thought is that the translucent zipper that runs alongside the nipple seems either a bit too light (barely there) or out of place (remove altogether).

    Otherwise, a lot of fun.

Heather, this is a beautiful image - one that shows romance, sensuality, and intimacy. The models are perfect.

Technically, I think you nailed the lighting very well. 7/7

Personally (and this is purely my own opinion and preference) the water is a bit too soft for me. It almost looks like it's been blurred through PhotoShop.

HOWEVER, I think you've captured the contrast and colors of the water and surrounding rocks very well.

You've captured beautiful colors, congratulations! I also really liek the softness of the water's edge.

Simply out of my own curiosity, how slow of a shutter speed did you use to get that softness? I am guessing about 1/15?

Other than a couple of hot spots from the lighting on the left-side leaf, I love the coloring and framing. The inclusion of the lizard adds life to the image.
