Great info here. I'll be going the last weekend in March, any idea if there may be spring like conditions by then? Thanks.

With all the good things the D3 has going for it, the only negative that I see is the crop mode when DX lenses are used. Oh, and the price (for me).
-
FYI, Nikon has released an update for Camera Control Pro 2.
-
You can use Nikon Camera Control Pro to connect your D80 to a computer. As Shun wrote the D80 has no live view capability, so you will have to take a shot before you can view it on your computers monitor.
-
Long exposure noise reduction can be turned off in the menus, and if you use ISO 3200 or less the camera won't add any, according to pages 262 and 263 in the manual.

Thank you Ellis and Jose.

Big CF Cards. More ram and a bigger hard drive for your computer.

2400 with G4 Mac OS 10.4.11 here, never a problem with either machine.

Get it. I miss my F5.

My question is at what distance do you test for front or back focus on your
lenses? Or does it even matter? Any real experiences with zooms or primes
appreciated.

Here is a good link http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens_short.html Bjorne is well respected.

What lenses do you have now?

Have you tried a tripod to eliminate camera shake?

There is an update 10.5.2 available. It is supposed to help D3 and D300 files. Look in the
Nikon Forum for a discussion there.

I agree, the 28-70mm f2.8 is an awsome lens. Kinda heavy and expensive, but worth it!
-
I had to use the AF fine tune on my D300 to get the 105mm DC to focus perfectly. Great combination.
-
Exif viewer will show it too.

You can learn about in camera D Lighting at this link: http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d80/index.shtml
Click on "Solutions for various shooting situations" and then click on "More on play back".
Have fun!

Photoshop won't sharpen something that crappy lenses can't resolve.
