Street photography is a new interest of mine and I've been wandering the streets of Chicago with my
Canon F-1 and a 50mm lens as often as possible for the last couple of weeks. On one occasion I
happened upon a police officer helping a guy in a wheel chair get over a curb and thought it might
make a nice photograph so I raised the camera and made the exposure. The police officer confronted
me and told me that I wasn't allowed to photograph officers in uniform. I asked him if it was illegal to
do so his response was, "You're just not supposed to do it." He asked me to delete the image which
was obviously impossible (It is the New F-1, but it's not that new ;-) ). He instructed me not to take any
more pictures of officers. I've done some searching on this sight and a few others about this and can't
find a definite answer about the legality of photographing officers in uniform. I have since obliged the
officers instructions. Does anyone know the law regarding this?

I was looking around on e-bay for new toys that would work with my
Pentax Spotmatic and I ran across what looks like a deal to me. Two
Super Takumar lenses, 1:1.8/55 and 1:1.8/35, and a Tokina 80-200mm
zoom lens. I know about the Super Takumar because I already have a
couple of their lenses but I don't know anything about the tokina
lens. Is it a good lens for a beginning serious amerature who also
happens to be a very low income college student? The package
includes:
1. Super Takumar 1:1.8/55 (bought with camera in Hong Kong in 1969).
2. Super Takumar 1:3.5/35mm (bought with camera in Hong Kong in 1969).
3. RMC Tokina 80-200 zoom lens.
4. Two instructions books including the original manual for Spotmatic.
5. APS Auto Teleplus 3X extender.
6. Leather carrying case.
7. Panago Extension tube set for close up work.
8. Five 62mm filters.
9. Leather cases for all lenses.
and the price has been sitting at $30.00 with no bids yet. Is this a
good deal or should I be wary?

Beau, did you buy the Sony lenses or another brand?
-
A couple of months ago I purchased a refurbished Sony DSC-F717. I
would like to purchase a 2x telephoto magnifier and maybe a .5x wide
angle as well, but to buy the Sony versions of these lenses would
cost me $300 a piece. I have looked around on E-bay for cheaper
lenses but I'm not sure which ones are the best quality. Any
suggestions for a cheaper alternative or for a good place to look?

Thanks for your help. Last night I purchased the Sony F717.

I am an extreme beginner looking for a good relatively low priced
digital camera. Right now I am considering either the Canon G5 or
the Sony DSC-F717 and I'm leaning towards the Sony based on what I've
read about image and lens quality between the two cameras. Is this a
good decision? Is there another camera that I should also consider?

thanks for the responses. I had a suspicion that what you guys have told me was the
answer to my question. Gotta love a guy who uses his badge to get his way.
