  1. Hello Pete. If you go to saintes maries de la mer, you'll find them anywhere. I happened to end up there when I was hitch-hiking around the Europe last summer. I walked to Aigues Mortes and saw them all around the place. If you go there in summer, be aware of mosquitos, there are zillions of them...
  2. Hi. I've recently purchased Canon 550ex. Everytime I switch it on I can hear

high pitched sound like the flash is charging up. However I can hear it even

when flash is ready to go, kinda remain it certain level. Is it regular thing I

have to get use to or is flash faulty? I didn't experienced it before. Thanks...

  3. Hi.I'm trying to get my set up together and it came to tripod too. I know there

are plenty Q like this when you would say Do some search, plenty answers here.

I've done the search. I would like to hear from you if you think I'm pushing too

far. I'll probably go for Markins 10 as I expect it to be longtime, looooongtime

investment. The legs are the issue. I hike a lot, long and far and I carry my

possessions on my back. The heaviest set up I've got at the moment is 300 f4 +

TC + body ( if I ever have money to buy anything bigger, I guess I'll have money

    to buy stronger legs). I like Manfrotto 055 MF3 maybe MF4 (I don't think I'd use

the bottom section of MF4 a lot ). And here comes the trick. There is a chance

this legs would later be used for basic Canon XL1s camcoder set up with video

head. You think it can handle it? Should by numbers. Thanks for answers. Peter

  4. Thanks. Yeah, I've found some websites but most of them are dealing with technical aspect of the video and editing which is useful but not enough. dvinfo.net was probably what I was looking for, many useful links there (wildeye.co.uk,wildlife-film.com, iawf.org...) Thanks much again... any other stuff - more than welcome...Peter
  5. Photo.net is one of the best photo websites I've ever found and I've

learnt a lot from here. However, my friend is getting more involved in

video and editing, trying to learn s'thing about wildlife and

documentary films. Do you know any websites that deal with this, some

    "photo.net" video equivalent? Thanks. Peter

  6. My favorite thing is wildlife and nature, may sound weird, but it is so right because there are no people. However, I try to travel as much as possible these days and IMO travel photo and street photo goes hand in hand. I confess, I'm the shy one. I'm not good at getting close to people and that's why I consider myself not being good at street photo'phy. However I found out s'thing that works for me and helps me quite a lot. I also try to take the photo without drawing subject's attention. However, what matters is what happens after that. If he/they notice me after photo was taken, I usually wink at them or show them thumbs up, tell them thanks, anything, just to show them they were great before they have chance to tell me off. I think that's the advantage of being close to them, you can't really do that if you are far and shooting with tele ( you look rather like private detective). I can't say it works 100%, but usually it does. As I've read other posts about street photo, many people argued if it's legal or not, just to take s'body's picture and publish it. I believe it's always worth to check it out in every country. And everybody should have some sense for situation. I wouldn't take picture of federal building in the US, especially not these days, nor take the picture of muslin women anywhere in the world ( and if you do, you gotta be sure you are damn good or damn fast). These are extreme examples, but... I didn't get into conflict yet so it's probably waiting for me pretty soon. If it happens I let you know if this winking stuff was any good;-) Or I'll just pack my stuff and go back to the forest. No conflicts there.....Peter
  7. Hi.I recently started to shoot Reala, which I like a lot.However, I'm

not really a tripod user, I prefer to sneak around w/ camera ready to

push the button and the forrest is dark (and scary;-), so I would like

to find s/thing faster. I shoot prints, mostly wildlife. I can see

slides coming, but not yet..Portra? Anything in Fuji line? Thanks.

    Peter

  8. I agree with Kai, take normal daypack and put camera bag in it ( as you said you don't think you'll need to take it out in seconds). I look after my stuff as I don't have cash to buy new gear every week. However my spine is more important and I want to focus on skiing in first place. Once you stop to take a picture, it doesn't matter what bag you pull your camera out from. I think most serious stuff comes from Mammut, Tatonka and definitly slovak Treksport. That's stuff is made to last. Check it out www.treksport.sk
  9. I've been searching web about tripod/head set up to find the best

    combination for Canon 50 w/ 300/f4 +TC. Arca Swiss B1 looks like a

flag ship but price and weight matters to me..I found some brief but

positive comments on Canon ball heads, sounded interesting. Are there

any users of this one that can give some more info about this one? How

does it handle long lens in funny angles,etc...Thanks.Peter

  10. Hi.I'd like to ask how can you find out the year when camera was

produced? I'm interested in buying used Canon EOS 3, whit serial no.

starting with 27, the whole number has 7 digits. I've read about

metering problems with early produced stock, series starting 24,25,26,

then one said even series 27 were problematic, had to be fixed by

software.Canon fixed the problem and new stock was supposed to be

flawless. I'd like to increase the chances not to get the troubled

    one. Thanks...

  11. Thanks for the answers, though some of them are dealing with little different subject than I've meant. Of course, world is full of "bad people" taking the advantage of somebody else's work. When I've searched the web, I often found this kind of opinions, pro photographers vs. second shooters, photographers vs. clients... However, I'm interested in the very beginning of this topic. My question came up from shallow-brained idea that negs are better evidence than digi file in computer, that when you show negs, OK, I think people will believe it's your job( I know, even negs can be stolen or transfered, please, don't go there). When you show file in computer, I don't know..( come on, man, can't you see it's saved in "MY! Documents"?:-) You know what I mean? Now I'm checking all the links you adviced, thanks for putting me on right track and I'll follow and appreciate any other opinions..
  12. Hi. I've been just surfing around, found nice discussion about film

vs. digital at NIKON F6 forum (usually I'm at Canon's). Anyway, the

last post was about the copyright of digital photos. I've posted this

Q there, but I put it here as well. So, I'm film user and propably

I'll be for while. Copyright is solved for me, 'cause I've got

negatives. How is with digital? People do business with their photos

so I'm interested how they take care of this...

  13. Just come back from nice trip around Scotland, where I used my new

Canon EF 300/4 IS USM.The lens has been purchased three/four weeks ago

and this was the very first serious use of it.However, today I noticed

while IS is switched on, the whole picture is shaking and moving in

horizontal way, like trying to run out of viewfinder. When switched to

IS mode 2(for panning), the same story. It was pretty windy so I though

the wind is over the limit of ImStab, but same thing was happening

when I checked it in the car.I kept the lens in the case while not

using it,carried it in rucksack with all necessary gear for winter

hikking/camping.I asked myself if I hit it somewhere, but I don't

think so,it's quite bulky anyway.Wetness is possibility,(snow and

wind) but I think if body EOS 55 is OK,electr.as well as mechan. this

lens is even better build.Has anybody experienced same problem?what to

do? I need to trust my gear...Thanx.Peter

  14. 300/f4 IS is very nice, more than that, even w/ 1.4TC, but I'm

hesitating to use it with 2TC(I don't even own one, just borrowed)and

I'm looking for some longer telephoto for wildlife, let's say 500mm.

I know, it's always the same old story, quality vs.price. I'm not

willing nor able to pay 7000+$ for such Canon gear. I've used to

catch some reports saying that some 3rd party lenses sometimes happen

to be very good, but it is matter of particular model.Any tips?

    Thanx.
