  1. re; polarizer removal, I have no idea--however the TSA lock was also missing when I reached my destination...the body cap was off the camera body and the mirrors marred inside--but nothing was missing.(except the lock).
  2. ...Canon EF 100mm f/2.0 lens be rethreaded or repaired after having

a TSA inspector "cross thread" a polarizer back on? Both lens

threads and polarizer seem to be badly stripped.....

  3. Last Monday I checked a Pelican case (filled with photo gear)into

checked luggage at the Boise ID airport--with a TSA lock on the

    case.

When I arrive in Reno NV, I found a) the TSA lock missing, b)my EOS3

body with the body cap removed-mirror marred in two places and

filled with particulate matter from the foam liner and c) a 100mm

f/2 lens with the polarizer "cross threaded" so badly I was forced

to buy a set of filter wrenches in Grants Pass OR to remove it--both

the polarizer and the lens threads seem to be "stripped"....rather

    badly.

    Now, what is my recourse?

  4. I think it may have something to do with a natural human rebellion, (either conscious or unconscious), against the increasing depersonalization and acceleration of life through technology. Cell phones, Fax's, email, internet access, faster-bigger-better digital bodies every 3-4 months, instantaneous viewing of results--you get the drift. there may be something reassuring emotionally in using a 60-70 year old camera-"quality in construction" and "near permanent utility".....

Of course my, 1939 Rolleiflex looks pretty cool also....

  5. Beware of "TLRAS" (Twin Lens Reflex Acquisition Syndrome), it starts with a Yashicamat (or two), progresses to Ikoflex ownership--then multiple Rolleiflex ownership..the terminal phase is evidenced by, a) an overwhelming desire to own everyone else's TLR's (at any cost), and b)cancelled checks payable to Harry Fleenor...
  6. Rather than a feeder--try a really LOUD Hawaiian shirt (red w/floral pattern), no fooling, I get "buzzed' regularly here in AZ (with the birds "hanging approx 2 feet in front of me), until they figure out I'm not a Hibiscus
