My 40-cron at f2 is definitely sharper than the 2,8 summaron i had at f2,8. I have no worries about the build quality of the 40, but the summaron was superb, probably over-engineered, vintage Leitz. It also had a vintage long throw focus which I didn't find as quick to use on the fly.
Outside at mid apertures they are comparable for sharpness, inside the 40 gives you an extra, very usable, stop...
The 40 can occasionally be prone to strange flare effects, but i never did use the summaron as much, which is why I sold it on. My 40 will be with me until i don't have a camera to mount it on.

hmm,
Does the lens mount correctly, is the focus mark arriving at about 2 o'clock when viewed from the front?
You could try mounting the lens whilst its at its closest focus to make sure the rangefinder coupling cam is not binding during mounting...
-
if you're shooting mid aperture, and speed isn't critical, I'd definitely look at the various Canon 35s, do factor in cost of CLA though.
-
Which 50 Summicron are you referencing against, collapsable or rigid?
I think the Konica is probably your best option, but I'm afraid I have no idea on pricing for it.
-
No, the Zeiss Ikon lenses are M-mount only.
At the speed you are looking for your only modern choices are the CV 35/1.7, the very limited LTM Summicron ASPH and the highly rated, but quite hard to find Konica 35/2 UC.
Earlier than these would be the (collectable) version 1 Summicron in LTM, Canon 35/1.8, Canon 35/2, Canon 35/1.5, and the Nikon 35/1.8.
I think this covers the options, and affordability is between you and your bank manager!

The lens is apparently excellent, its a shame for the less extreme luddites that Leica haven't issued it in M-mount.
See here too, there are some other links buried in the thread too:

sorry one more, doesn't this qualify as some sort of mail fraud in the USA?

Asher, asumming John reported it to the police at the time they should still have the report and serial numbers on file. Anyone else in posession of them is in receipt of stolen goods.
-
There used to be a serial number checker on the Leica site, people could report gear as stolen, then it would be flagged if anyone checked on the provenance of something they were thinking of buying.
Unfortunately it has either been buried or removed in the most recent site redesign.
-
It's definitely separation of elements, if the price didn't reflect this, and you are able to, return it for a refund.
I have a 50 cron-M the same (close to yours: 310XXXX), results from it are good, but it does prey at the back of my mind, and I will eventually look into the cost of fixing it, however it was a good price and I knew about it before buying...
-
There are some extra light baffles apparently in the M6 and later. Peter at CRR Luton added them to my M2 as a routine part of CLA. So this maybe what causes the difference.
I suspect your M5 is just fine.

Try googling the problem, or asking for help at rangefinderforum.com, there are many more Bessa users over there than here, I think. Shutter jam on the Bessa is a known problem, and I believe can often be fixed by the user by some combination of fiddling with the shutter release, rewind button and wind lever.
Good luck

The price is good, depending on condition.
You cannot mount it on your 350d and retain infinity focusing, if anyone makes an adaptor (I don't think they do) it will only be good for very small distances.

Try Kyle Cassidy's fix here:

It sounds like it may be the same problem. Best of luck.

Once I figured it out LOL :-)
Its true too, the manual focus is what I love about the T2 over other P&S I have tried, I roll my index finger along the wheel, get focus confirmation then switch to the shutter and shoot. Ok, its not really fast enough (especially with the shutter lag) for street or other busy stuff. But if you have 2 or 3 seconds to spare its great.

you can dowload the manual in english here:

Paul,
Thanks for the kind words, it was a product shot for the company that is renting the van out (and more like it) the usual clientele - bands- and the state they leave the van after a 3 week tour isn't exactly photogenic! Kind of, this is as good it as gets!

*Really* boring shot, but you asked for samples!

Yes, its normal.

Cool.
I did notice that it has a grub screw on it, maybe worth an email to try and get more pics from him, perhaps the insert would transplant across?
-
Stephen,
I know its not Leica, but heavystar does a copy, I don't know (doubt) that the part would be exchangable, but it is claimed by a more expensive seller to be a duplicate of the original, at least it would work in your bag at a reasonable price:

I get 36-37 exposures from 31-32 full turns of the handle with my Watson 66 (depending on the film stock).
Also I should add that I use left over cannisters from a C41 lab and do it in the dark.
-
The usual standard for pulling film over exposed by a stop (if you expose twice at your normal rating) is to reduce development by 20-30% per stop.
Battery problems in Bessa R4A
in Leica and Rangefinders
Posted
Was it a second hand purchase?
Is it the rewind crank, or the advance lever that is jammed?
Obviously make sure all the battery contacts are clean, I'm assuming its a typical electronic camera that (like my old canon AE-1) won't wind or do anything without power.
It might be the classic Bessa jammed shutter, see here:
