Patrick,
Do you know off hand whether the Apple Cinema Display can be set to 5000K?
-
Patrick,
My mistake. I do use an Eye 1 Display 2. So, the brightness determined by a calibration device is completely independent of the brightness of ambient light?
-
Thanks to both for your responses. So, what you're saying is that it, the brightness ratio, doesn't have to be exact. Instead, just get set the light to a level that feels comfortable for reading and set the brightness of the monitor to about the same level. I'm not sure if I trust my judgement of "comfortable" brightness, but I'll give it a go. Any other insights and suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!

I'm trying to correct the set up of my photo editing area. I've read contradictory opinions regarding the
brightness of a digital darkroom. Some say that it should be kept as dim as possible. Others say that it should
be same brightness of the monitor. So which one is correct?

Colin,
I did try to change the input for the display. It hasn't resolved the issue. I'll try to play around with it some more tomorrow. I'll disconnect and reconnect the vga cable and then restart the pc. I let you know if this works. So, you don't think that getting a vga-dvi connector and inputting via the monitor's dvi port would solve the problem?
-
Guys,
Thank you! After a few hours of unnecessary fretting and searching. I decided to just stick the apple dvi cable into the pc port and it fits like hand in glove. I was thrown off by the difference in appearance of the cable and pc ports. I guess one can't be sure before trying.
Anyhow, now I have a secondary problem. Now that the Apple display is up and running, the old Dell monitor now doesn't display anymore. It's connected to the pc via vga cable. That monitor does have a dvi port, so I guess I should try to get a dvi/vga connector for it. Do you know whether this would resolve it?
BTW Patrick, the Apple Cinema Display looks great! It's bright and yet it isn't harsh on my eyes the way the Dell is.

Also, the video card presently installed is Radeon X600 256MB Hypermemory. Would I need to upgrade the video card too? Thanks.

Hi,
I just bought a Apple Cinema Display. I have a Dell Dimension E510 PC. The Apple cable doesn't fit Dell's DVI
port. Would anyone know the name of the adapter that is needed to interface the two? Thanks!

This certainly captured my attention. Photographs by sight-impaired. Check out this Yahoo! news video. Feel free to
comment.

Patrick, thank you. I earnestly appreciate your time and help! And thanks to other for their remarks.

I have a Gretag MacBeth Eye 1-Display 2, should I go for the ACD 23 or the NEC 2490? The latter without the Spectral View II is a about $200 more. Is it worth the difference?

Dennis,
I'll send you my email address in a few days. I'm leaving town for a weekend trip.
James, I do the same as well and will view your web page when I get back.
OK, got to pack and go. I'll post again in a little while.

Hello Dennis,
Thanks for joining this thread! I'd be happy to make some suggestions regarding places to explore. Our itineraries are fairly similar. Will this be your first time in Beijing or have you gone there before?
This is my website: www.juunhwaea.com
It hasn't been updated in a few years, but it contains images from my first trip to Beijing and some pictures I took around New York when I was taking some courses.
Cheers!

Hello,
I'm gonna be in Beijing during the month of August for the Olympics. I'm interested to meet other photographers who
will be there or in the vicinity. It'll be fun to share some comraderie and some images. I've gone there four times in the
last four years and can speak Mandarin well enough to get by.
Look forward to meeting you.

I figured it out, Alan. Thanks.

Alan,
I wasn't clear enough. The ppi is not what concerns me. The problem is that the image width and height have been reduced in the process. For example, a 45x30 inches image was reduced to an 18x12 inches document. That's the problem. Thanks.

Hello all,
I converted some RAW files into DNG files, edited the images as RAW files using
Photoshop 8.0, and then saved them as TIFF files. I've worked on very many
pictures before I realized that the image size was at 240 ppi rather than 96,
and width and height have been inversely reduced. Where did I make the mistake
and how do I correct the files I would work on from this point on? (I believe
that it was at the DNG conversion level.) Secondly, what is the most expedient
way to change the image size of the documents I've already edited? Is there a
way to do this without having to redo the RAW editing in Photoshop? I hate to
think that I've wasted all that time I spent on them the first time. Thank you
for your aid.

Thank you, both. Korry, I'll run a test of my monitor with what you provided. Charles, do the Reveal bulbs come in a variety of color temperatures? I'll look into it.

I can't seem to get a "what you see is what you get" print. I use Eye 1 Match 3
to calibrate my lcd monitor. I light my workspace at about 5500 Kelvin. I also
use Colorbyte's Image Print to print to my Epson Stylus 2200 printer. (I have
run nozzle checks to confirm that the ink dispenser is clear). My prints still
don't look like what I see on screen; they are darker and some what more red.
What is wrong? I believe that my monitor, a Dell 2005FPW lcd, is sub par for
advance photo editing needs, BUT IS THAT REALLY THE PROBLEM? Any insight would
be appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you, Jim! I'll go to Adobe's site and do some reading. It's helpful that you confirm that version update may in fact be the problem. I'll let you know how it goes.

I tried to open a RAW file in Photoshop, but couldn't. The error message stated
that it isn't "the right kind of document". My camera is Canon 5D. Do I need the
correct RAW plug-in from Adobe? If so, does any have a link to the download? If
not, what is the problem? Thanks!
-
Charles, I appreciate you doing a the Google search. I've been raking the internet for information. I've even called Canon and Toshiba. What I learned is that it does allow the direct of files, including RAW, direct from camera to the PVD. However, it only list the Digital Rebel among Canon's SLR. Furthermore, you can't preview the RAW files, but I'm not concerned about that. I just want to store it. The question is can the 10D function compatibly with it as well. I think it can because the 10D and DRebel are similar, but I'm not certain.
I've done quite a bit of searching before posting the question here.

Does any have experience using the Toshiba Gigabeat MES60VK to store large
quantities of pictures? I want to know if it's possible to upload RAW files
directly from the Canon 10D to this portable media? Thanks.

Actually, I found my answer. It's YES.
