I guess the noise is not focus or zoom related. t is just that if I touch the outer ring of my lens a bit it seems to be a bit looose.....can be moved in anti-clockwise direction a bit.....maybe like 0.5 degrees of the circle and , it does makes a a bit of awkward noise, when do that.
When the lens does move that 0.5 degrees or 0.25 degrees, the lens doesn't change it's focus at that time. it is just that the outer ring seems to be bit loose. But, is this a sign of improper care of the lens or it's a usual story with most of the lenses ?

Thanks Guys for letting me know about the problems. I think I need to do some test shots with no film inside to know exactly how to zoom and focus quickly.
As for the "awkward" sound my lens is making, I am still not very sure if it is a real problem. Will go in a wolf store nearby and check if most of the lens do make a bit of sound if
outer ring rotated a little -> rotation stopped -> a bit of touch up in the opposite direction -> generates that "awkward" mild noise.
Thanks again Guys for letting me know the answers.

Hi Guys,
I reecently bought a ELAN 7E with 28-105 3.5-4.5 USM II. I am just a
beginner in SLR world and have 2 questions to ask.
a) When I put my lens in AF mode, I see that the focus on any
particular subject is reached when shutter is pressed halfway. But
when I need a closeup of the same subject ( which is still far
distance wise) using zoom feature on the lens, do I stil need to
manually rotate the lens so that it zooms.
In short, when i increase\decrease the focal length of the lens can I
use the Autofocus all along.
What I have been noticing is that in the 2 scenarios( mentioned
below) I have always used manual focussing and then I just press the
shutter halfway to do a bit of Autofocus for me to get the image
sharp.
a) Taking the wider view keeping the focal length short
b) Zooming in to the subject to take a close-up shot
Can't I zoom in and out, take a wider shot keeping the focus same,
make a close up shot....by just SOME WAY ??
I am able o do the job well, but I have been thinking about it, still
wondering if I am missing out on thisds feature which may be provided
already in ELAN 7E.
Second question -> Whenever I move the outer ring of the above
mentioned lens in the clockwise direction, I don't hear any noise.
But when I do stop at any given point, I can still see the outer's
ring's body can be moved a teeny weeny bit and it does make a soung
when I that gently touch it and move that teeny weeny bit in anti-
clockwise direction? Is this behavior normal and happens with most of
the lenses and across the brands in the same proce range? Or shall I
just replace the lens, since this lens mauy have the potential of
breaking down soon.
I did try to search on this site and on google for such behaviors.
For the first question I did hear about "FULL TIME MANUAL FOCUSSING",
but I am not sure if that's the answer for MY FIRST QUESTION.
Second question comes just cuz I am handling a SLR lens for the first
time and I can still get the lens replaced under Etronics return
policy, from where I bought this lens.
Thanks,
Rajat

Hi All,
I am a begineer when it coems to pjotography. Bought 28-105 mm USM I
lens two weeks back for my canon ELAN 7E.
After just 2 weeks and 4 rolls completion, I hear a "noise" when I
just gently touch and roll the outer ring of the lens( so as to
focus).
Is this a common problem and found generally across all kind of
branded lenses ( having this kind of price)?? Or 28-1055 mm lens
related??
The sound is horrible ofcourse. I had bought the lens from
ETRONICS.COM. If this noise is a "problem" I am hopeful they will
accept the return and send another one.
guys do let me know.I have a week and a half to return the lens.
Thanks,
Rajat
