    High Tide

I like this quite a lot, with the sea roiling and upset, and the reach into the horizon. It bothers me that the buildings are not upright, but that's a personal choice. Thanks for posting.

The timing of this shot is perfect. The image seems to have a gray cast that needs to be removed, and the compression to jpeg is not doing you any favors.  It seems to be under-exposed, maybe with a bit of camera movement. I would love to make a shot like this.

    Best regards.

No PS trick; these birds were actually lined up like this, waiting at a feeder at a friend's house. His hobby is bird watching and he invited me to shoot some hummingbirds.  This is a platinum over gold leaf print and looks much better in person.

  1. I like that this is not over-saturated but a good look at what people might see when out hiking. I thought at first the the green-brown cast was intentional but found it in most of the work in your portfolio, so I am wondering whether or not it is. You might try cropping out some of the sky at the top of the image to see if you like that composition better. Regards.

  2. Thank you for your comments. You are correct: there is a significant loss of detail in the petals which has convinced me to upgrade the scanner. Thanks for taking time to leave a comment.

Nicely done. I am assuming an HDR because of the hard shadows on the ground. My only complaint is the halo on the horizon caused by too much sharpening. Thanks for posting.

I love this unusual flower. It is unfortunate that you only had a small snapshot camera with you for this capture, but I think properly exposing the outer petals with it would block up the color on the inner petals. Still, it is a beautiful shot. Thanks for sharing it with us. Regards.

For me, the post (or tree or whatever it is) in the middle ruins the composition - eliminating it would immediately make the image better. The other thing is that the image has a color cast - mostly green; some post-processing could eliminate it.

  3. I like the idea behind this image but believe there is too much empty space at the top of the photo. The photo might be improved if it contained only three gourds, or five perhaps, but the even number lacks tension. I like the textured background but I think there is more work to be done with the foreground. Regards.

I love the textures and your focus is perfect; the tonality is very good, as well. The image seems to be lacking a central focus. You have this wonderful visual of lines drawing the eye into the center-right, but when the eye follows, there is nothing there to see; which, I think, is the only problem with this wonderful shot. Regards.
