Thank you to everyone for your detailed responses.
- Yes its not quite 8 years, I did own an EOS ELAN IIE and switched
- If I get out of film all together then my 17-35 would not be that useful to own and I will have to replace it with the 12-24 DX.
- Definitly I will checkout the 50 mm lense
Once again thanl you for the replies

I have owned a Nikon F100 for well over 8 years now, I have 3 Nikon
2.8 Lenses 17-35(2.8),28-70(2.8) and 70-200(2.8). I also own a Nikon
slide scanner, now I am considering switching over or Digital (D200
hopefuly). My shooting is mostly vacation or some events
(birthdays/weddings etc)
Here are my questions...
1. I hear that the traditional lenses do not work 100% on Digital SLR
(some cropping factor) specially the wide angle lenses?
2. Nikon had introduced the new DX lenses, so is the future of all
the old lenses, finally are they all going obsolete.
3. Truly can I produce the same pictures that I did with a filim on a
DSLR (standard postcard prints..)
I have been reading many postings it just confuses me more than
before.

The F100 is a fantastic camera with the 28-70 AFS. I was in the Canon camp till I just had a bad trip when many of my photos were ruined (not because of the ELAN IIE but the 3rd party lense).
I switched to the F100 when it was just release bought it from a dealer on ebay for 800US$, it sat for a while when i was using borrowed lenses from a friend before I could afford the 28-70, yes the pain was there for a long time but slowly as the pictures come back you realize that its all worth it.
Also I now splurged on 2 more 2.8 (18-35 & 70-200), that pain will probabily never go away for a life time.... Now they want us to go digital....
It never ends isn't it. My suggestion spend money on quality glass you never loose you investment.

Thanx to eveyone for their responses.
What would be great is that introduce something which is semi pro between D1H/D2X and a D70/D100
Maybe I just have to get on the waiting line....

I currenly own a Nikon F100 and 3 lenses (18-35,28-70 & 80-200 2.8
lenses). I am considering switching to one of the Nikon D-SLR. Howver
I do not see one that is comparable to the F100. The D100 is not the
bext choice as I hate the white light focusing it has when its dark.
The D1H,D1X & D2H are astronomically priced.
Is there a plan to soup up the D100?
Why do they take away the infra red focus....?

I am going on a 22 day trek to everest base camp. leaving this friday
from New York. I was thinking of buying 50 rolls of film @ B&H now I
hear they are closed this week.
My friend is suggesting that I buy my film in BANGKOK as I have a 1
day stop over.
So my question is it cheaper to buy film in Bankok? Is it reliable?
Where can I find Fuji reala 100 there?
Should I just buy it here in the US.

My first wedding shoot was a disaster ( At least to me).
I have never been asked to shoot a wedding however a friend of mine was have a very quite wedding and she had only invited a hand few people (Approx a dozen). She asked me if I was fine to shoot few pics.
At first I say - No way get a professional photographer. However she convinced me that I would be one of the many ametures who will shoot and they will be no problems if I didn't do well.
Howver I did all the precautionary check, of batteries, film, flash etc, etc.
I had to shoot in a mayors office where she was getting married (civil ceremony). It was all dark pannaled interior with brown leather furniture. Outside was a bright sunny day.
I used a flash and I used Kodak 100 film. I shot 2 rolls of 36. When I got the prints back, I was totally un happy. Even though she said they looked OK.
have no idea what happened both rolls we not exposed correctly, the skin tones were just too, white, white and not natural colored. This was the first time that has happened. I don't have the photos or I'll post some for you to critic.
Since then I still haven't got over my jitters of shooting indoors in any important function.

Thanx for the response the Lee foundation kit seems nice but I have a question regarding the 77 mm adapter ring.
They have 2 adapter rings one for regular lenses and another for wide angle.
My question is that is I just bought the one for Wide angle and used it in the regular lense -- Will it be a problem ?
Or should I really buy seperate ones?
-
I currently have Nikon clear glass filters on both my lenses to protect the lense.
As all my lenses are almost the same size maybe I should even consider screw on filters -- any thoughts?

I am a serious ameture photographer and I have the following
equipment Nikon F100, Nikon 28-70 2.8, Nikon 70-200 VR. Both of them
are 77 mm lenses. Next on my wish list is Nikon 17-35 which will also
be a 77 mm lense.
So the question I have is what is a reasonablly priced Filter set
that I can buy as a started to experiment -- not too expensive. Will
Cokin be compatible? They claim 72mm isn't that small for my lense?
Please provide some pointers so that I can check them out.

I am leaving on a 3 week trip to Nepal, Basically trekking to Everest
Base Camp in the second half of October.
After reading thru the forums it sees that the processing facilities
are not that great in Kathmandu. As I will be in singapore for a few
day after the trip, I thought it mabe a good idea to get my
developing done there.
I wanted suggestion of good professional labs for processing Fuji
print film.
thank you for your resposes.
Own a F100 and now thing D200.... Have some questions
in Mirrorless Digital Cameras

Thank you to one and all for your valuable suggestions.
- Yes I will hold on to my F100 a little longer before I list it on ebay (I don't shoot B/W but occasionally have shot some slides)
- Suprising that since I have bought the 17-35 I use, less and less of the 28-70 other than for potraits/functions, most of my travel shots are on the 17-35 as they give you a fantastic view...
For those who are interested in my lenses, I am not selling any yet, will definitly post a message it I plan to.
Thank you one and all.
