Think of the T-70 display, many of them dont't work any longer because of its age. Take a mechanical good conditioned old F1 or FtB if you want to stay on the safe side. Even my A1 has been repaired two times and as it is not longer serviced by Canon anymore I have to trust in my two FtB.

@Lacey,
"Granted, a black chrome one is even more inconspicuous.. " That's the reason I will wait until a MP black chrome is available. There is no technical reason why Leica could not build them.
@Stuart
"silver reminds me of my mom's old Canon AE1 Program. Good camera..."
Most Canon AE 1 Program are black ones.
"Just curious, why have folks chosen the MP over the M7."
Because it's close to the M3.
My black chrome M6 and my silver chrome M3 work well together with silver and black lenses. And most silver lenses have black hoods.
So enjoy the "Panda"-look!

Hi, leave the 25/4 at home, it is much too close to the 35/2. Better combination might be 21 - 35 - 90. My favourite for the alps ist 21 - 35 - 135. Using the 90/2,8 the 28 might be an alternative for 25/4 and 35/2.
Think of Neopren-bags by Zing. Try to avoid vibrations by using socks, shirts and towels around your photographic staff.
For streets 80 PSI is quite normal, but offroad it might be uncomfortable and sometimes even dangerous because of the missing grip. Reduce to 45 - 60 PSI.
120km cycling a day? - don't forget taking some pictures.
Or do you like shooting pictures right from the handle-bar while cycling?
Then the 25/4 might get a revival because of its fixfocus-qualities.
Enjoy your ride

Perhaps your dealer might demand too high prices for his Leica stuff?
Then it might be easy for him to be generous.
Think about.

@Ken,
have you ever thought of looking for a Summicron 2,050 collapsible?
There have been built over 52,000 lenses from 1954 to 1957, so you might have a good chance getting a clean one.
-
If you never pull off the MR-4 from the top-plate, you never get any scruff marks or at least wont notice them...
-
If you are using 90 and 135 lenses, there is nothing better than the 0.91 x magnification of the M-3 viewfinder.
It still works finer with the new Leica Viewfinder Magnifier M 1.25x.

M1, MD, and other leicas without rangefinders for precision focusing even under poor light conditions and low motif contrast?
Forget them!
-
Be careful, sometimes it might be a russian fake.

Leitz 21mm f4 S A: "In reality, this lens, derived from the wide-angle Angulon made by Jos Schneider, did not yield excellent results because of the particularly evident vignetting when used with color film." (Ghester Sartorius, Identifying Leica Lenses, Rome 1999)

@Chuck,
1. have a look at Leica Camera Pocket Book or others with index of production-numbers.
There you can find chrome, black, lack, etc. But some numbers a missing or are not correctly noticed.
2. have a look at the camera. There might be no hints of silver chrome under the black paint only pure brass.
3. If you want to take pictures with those black M2 (about 1.800) and black M3 (about 6.000) be very carefully. Often they have been used by professional photographers and are in very bad conditions.
4. If the black finish is looking very nice, the camera might be restored or faked.
5. There are some very good painters in Japan who do there jobs in restoring black leicas or making a new black leica out of a silver-chrome very well, sometimes better than the factory production at Wetzlar ever did. Have a look at:
"http://nemeng.com/leica/004b.shtml
Can I have my M3/2/4 repainted?
Yes you can, it is an excellent (albeit expensive) way of refreshing a brassy and scuffed M.
"Shintaro Yaginuma" <mp-3.shintaro@> in Tokyo is the man to do the work. See his excellent and detailed www site at: homepage2.nifty.com/Shintaro/top1.html.
One important caveat though, only older brass body Ms can be repainted (along with the new M7, now Leica have gone back to using brass!). The zinc bodied Leicas (M4-P after #1600 000, M5 and M6) cannot be painted because their zinc alloy top covers would melt.
Also, expect lengthy delays as sometimes Mr Yaginuma can get very overloaded with orders. So another Japanese alternative to having your Leica repainted is Kantoamera Service Co Ltd. N.B. the site is in Japanese, so good luck in trying to figure it out!"
Kind regards
Hans-Bernd

For best magnification (1.7) I take my goggled (1.5) Elmarit 2,8 135 on M-3 (0.91) together with the new 1.25 magnifier.
1.25 x 1.5 x 0.91 = 1.7.
Best for details, youll get some kind of SLR-feeling on Leica-M, but the magnification is even a little bit too much if youre wearing glasses.
-
When I got a 90mm for M3 and M6 I never took again pictures with my 100mm and sold it. For M6 0,72 I take the new viewfinder magnifier M 1.25x.

@Aki and @Mark,

Have there ever been green Canon-lenses like those for Leica-R-Safari ( 2,8 - 35, 2,0 - 50, 1,4 - 50, & 4,0 - 180mm) ?
Thanks!

...have a look at some of these dreadful world-war-II-b-movies, often youll see a blonde officer photographing with a leica-III. Make a still-picture, there you are...

>>Do you have an idea of the price of such a 35mm f/2 with the eye? Do you know od a reliable source where to get one? Are these 35mm compatible with m6/m7/mp? Also how easy (difficult) is it to switch lenses?
Samir, have a look at ebay, goggled 35mm are sometimes available with 2,8 Summaron, 2,0 Summicron or - very expensive - 1,4 Summilux.
Today you will find six lenses:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2936204123&category=30063
All these 35mm goggled lenses are compatible with every leica-m. You will see the 50mm-frame instead of the 35mm-frame. But you can not use them with leica-cl.
Switching is as easy as with normal lenses, but the goggled lenses need more space in your bag and you must be more careful.

>>I dislike the glare of bright sunlight from chrome surfaces, so my preference for a black finish is personally a practical consideration based on using cameras outdoors...
Like Art Waldschmidt wrote on June 20, 2003, I prefer the black finish too. But not all Leica products have been available in black, f.e. Super-Angulon 4,0 - 21, Summicron 2,0 - 50 and Elmar 4,0 - 90 both with collapsible mount. And try to get a black M3 or M4 - much too expensive!
So I have to mix chrome M3 and black-chrome M6 with lenses in chrome and black.
As I like outdoor and nature photographing, I would like to get a green M6TTL ( http://www.hksupplies.com/product/bigphoto.cfm?refno=Leica%20M6%20TTL%200%2E85%20SAFARI%20Green%20Paint%20 ),
but it is only for collectors and there are no green lenses available.
What about camouflage?
-
Leica-M works fine from 21 135. So I prefer travelling with a M6, sometimes attended by a M3 for films with different ISO and three lenses: Super-Angulon 4,0-21, goggled Summicron 2,0-35 and Tele-Elmar 4,0-135. An old POOTR/13352 P.-filter 39mm fits for all.
-
@Paul,
>>On another note, does anyone know the filter size of the post-war Hektor 13.5/4.5? It's obviously smaller than the Summicron, perhaps about 35mm.
Brian Tompkins, Leica Camera Pocket Book, Wittig, Hückelhoven 1984, p.84: Filter size A 36 (no screw!), from 1958 E 39.

Think of different CCDs in two or five years, which will be able to do the same job like film nowadays....
-
>>I'd like an M with all picture-taking controls like the M7, but with a digital back, please. At least 6MP and full-frame.
Me too, but please include the possibility to get always, cheap and easy the lastest upgrade to 7MP, 8MP, 16MP, 32MP....

Well, that guy can afford it, because US-cars need too much gaz.
