See my photo
http://www.capetownskies.com/7739/07_sunset_miltn_widet.jpg for an example of an untouched, uncorrected sunset photo. A 3-stop ND grad will turn my photo into your photo, but to what purpose (qui bono?)
3-stop ND applied to my sunset photo:
-
As a 'Nature' photographer I find 3-stop ND-grads produce 'implausible-looking' images - imagine someone sent that photo from Saturn's moon Europa. How would you describe an atmosphere where the ground is brighter than the sky, where light travels from dark areas to bright areas, and all the laws of physics and optics are reversed (*end of temporary rant*)...
-
Just a technical point - your attached image is 239KB!
-
Very nice capture! Lenticular clouds can remain in place for long periods, but it is always best to grab a first shot...
-
Those are called pyrocumulus, although I haven't see any that impressive! See mine: http://www.capetownskies.com/6331/08_smoke_cloudb.jpg
-
I like the turbulent water frozen by short exposure, and the diagonal line of the wave. Great to see you posting on PN! I don't recall this one from your previous posts on photocritique.
-
I know this are well, and it really does need a fisheye to capture the scene!
-
I know the area well, and this boulder is only about 10m high :)
-
I would have stood on the rocks to get a better view of the valley, but that's my different sense of composition ;-)
-
I uploaded this photo a month ago, and got 2 ratings (I wonder if the
random function lost it). I am submitting a critique in the belief
that some people will actually enjoy seeing this, since it has rated
highly elsewhere.
-
I am fortunate to have this view from my balcony!
-
I have had my own website for 4 years, and been a member of photo.net
for the same length of time. I have posted a lot on other critique
forums, but I'm just trying to figure out how the critique thing
works here on photo.net
-
This is a great photo, but having seen many of your other images on critique forums it might not have been my first choice as favourite. Anyway congrats on POW, and the exposure to the photo.net audience of your work that many of us have enjoyed for some time.
-
I notice that this is your 2nd POW - a record surely!
-
I wasn't going to comment till I saw the shocking ratings!? This is a well composed photo, and having done a lot of cloud and sun rays, I would add that it takes some effort to capture.
-
I love it! Someone with a grudge obviously tried to give it low ratings...
-
Good capture of the rays (takes a lot of luck and patience!) Here's my version from the Southern Hemisphere http://capetownskies.com/0547/13_rays_fog_trees_rm_crit.jpg

Apart from showing us your sardonic sense of humour, you are setting a bad precendent. Saving as a Q=100 Jpeg bloats the medium size (588X402) image to 166KB. Unless you are trying to fill up the hard drive on your Server, faster than we can download the images?
