  1. thanks for the response. There's nothing wrong with the lens, it's just a bit plasticky. This is fine on my budget, but I was worried that the sharpness of the images was going to be very sub standard. It looks as though I'vd done okay for the money and I'm happy that the lens will see me through to the next.
  2. Hi, I've just brought a second hand 28-80 D lens for my F90x but now

I'm thinking I should take it back? There seems to be confusion on

the net between the D and the G and is it possible there are 2

versions of the 28-80 D lens, one good and one bad? I realised the

build wasn't great but I'd be annoyed if I'd just brought myself a

recognised bum deal. Please advise, I don't have long.

  3. Thanks, very helpful, especially Rob's post. If only I could afford an EOS 3 I would love one but I have loked very carefully at the second hand market and come up with the F90x and EOS 5 as the most viable options. I suspected the F90x was the more solid body so I think i'll wait for one of them to come along-even though an EOS 5 can go for less than £200 pounds on ebay. Thanks again.
  4. Ok, don't get too carried away but I really want to know which is the

best? I realise that it's a fairly personal thing as to which system

one prefers but I am would like some personal and informed opinions.

    Thanks.

  5. Having looked more carefully at the 28-105 , and 28-135 IS I like the sound of these two. Being British (I'm afraid) the prices for these two on jessops.co.uk are £239.89 and £449.90. The former is around about my budget but I will look out for a second hand IS lens. Thanks again all.
  6. wow, I was expecting to be e-mailed when a response came through? Thanks for the replies, I'm glad to recieve so much advice. When it comes to the kind of shooting I like to do, I am interested primarily in documentary, travel type photography so I think I would be better off (given that I can only afford one lens right now) with a 28 to 90 or similar focal range?
  7. I've just taken the leap from manual to Auto and brought myself an

EOS 5 body but I'm a little confused about the range of lenses. I

understand the speed, build etc but is there a pro range and an

amateur range? Please help, I want to start shooting but I don't

want to get this wrong. I'm on a tight budget and will look around

for second hand lenses but I can only really go on price. As you

know, that is a bad idea! Cheers.

  8. Thanks for the response, the lens wasn't working when it came but in a frenzy of excitement I gave the seller a good review before really checking it out. He offered to split the cost after a number of

e-mails but nothing came. It was my own fault really but that doesn't make it any easier to swallow.

Fixation said they could do it for £50 and it should still end up being cheaper than buying the lens from Jessops et al so I'll get saving (student!)

    Thanks again.

  9. I rather foolishly just purchased a lens on ebay and the aperture

ring is sticking. I was told that it could be oil on the iris blades

but I can't afford to get it fixed or get it open with one of those

cheap mini screwdrivers. It's a 28 mm NikKor for an FE2, it does

work if you "work" it a little and of course it works at f2.8 but

there's nothing more annoying than pressing the depth of field

preview and watching the lens darken over a period of a few seconds

while it snaps into place. Does anyone have any ideas-disappointing

    buy of the year.
