Thanks everyone for the quick and informative responses. I found the "older" 75-300mm used at www.keh.com in excellent condition for $172, well inside my budget. I put a few of the extra bucks towards express delivery, so I will have it in time for my trip plus some extra spending cash! Thanks again!

Hi -
I just got an N75 with the 28-80 f/3.3-5.6 lens and I was researching
Nikon lenses like the 70-300 zoom to complement it. It seems that
there are two versions of this lens though. I am interested in
outdoor photography and some portrait/people. I have some knowledge
of photography but would still consider myself somewhere in the
beginner category as i am getting back into it after about 8 years
without an SLR.
I have tried to do some research about the difference b/t the two
lenses, but even the Nikon website doesn't seem to make clear what
they might be. What is the difference b/t these two lenses, and is
the one worth the extra price. Or is there another lens that would
be better. The ~$300+ range would be my budget, for right now
anyway. I am going to Yosemite in a little over a week and was
thinking it might be nice to have the bigger lens while i'm out
there. Thanks in advance for any input.
HP 7960 print driver and papers
in The Digital Darkroom: Process, Technique & Printing
Posted
First, it seems that there is only one generic setting for "other
photo papers" in the printer driver. What have people found to work
well with 3rd party papers (both papers and paper settings) and why
does HP seem to not want to support any other papers (other than the
obvious, $$). I like the HP prem plus matte, but would like to see
what other papers look like.
Second, the white line down the edge of one photo on the borderless
5x7 and 8.5x11, have there been any fixes yet or have i just missed
them.
Third, an interesting point that HP may want to pay attention to. I
was trying some of the Kodak Ultima paper, which seems nice. I
noticed that they suggest to use their own software to make the best
prints, big surprise, but it is a free download, so what the heck.
It is clearly aimed towards the basic home user. But ANYWAY, the
interesting observation is that 1) there is no white line down one
side of at least the 5x7 print as there is using the hp
driver/software; and 2)you can choose specifically non HP papers, of
course only kodak papers, duh.
So, apparently both #1 and #2 are issues than can be solved. Maybe
no one at HP is smart enough to figure it out or maybe they just
haven't taken the time or specifically don't want to. There did
appear to be a very slight difference in the gray scaling b/t the
two prints. Not sure that one is clearly better than the other
though.
