  1. <p>I own the D700...and coming from a completely different angle...the Cannon will not use the old Cannon FD lenses which is a real shame. My D200 on the other hand will use all my Nikon AI/AIS film camera lenses and with the full size sensor my wide angles are really wide angles now. So my investment in lenses with Nikon is safe...</p>

<p>And it is a excellent low light camera....and focuses as fast as I need.</p>

<p>Seems to me this forum and Photo.net period are very slanted towards Cannon...but then Cannon is the official camera of so many things there must be some kickbacks somewhere along the line~</p>

  3. <p>I have a D200 and have thought about getting a D700 myself...so in other words a lens made for a 35mm film camera will work on the D700 as it would on a film camera? As it is right now with my AF-D Nikkors and my AI-S Nikkors I get a little boost in mm department on the D200...I think it is like 1.5X stronger ...my 400mm 5.6 EDIF is a 600 mm on the D200.</p>
  4. Nikon D2h ...used of course, but very nice. I have purchased 2 of them used off Ebay, and have been very happy with them. Just shop your buyers on Ebay, only ones with a high rating, that use Paypay, and Power sellers if possible. The D2h is only 4.1 megs but the pictures are very nice, the body is a tank, the viewfinder is high eypoint, and the thing will take allmost any Nikon lens as far back as 1959(of course unless modified for AI, you would have to shoot in manual, and not be able to meter)...pretty cool! You may have to go slightly higher than 1,200, I bought mine for 1,300, but they came with extras(extra Battery, CF Cards,Cases) . But it all depends on what you may or may not allready have for lenses. I have attached a sample shot with one of my D2h's and a Nikkor 400mm 5.6 EDIF AIS, on the D2h it becomes a 600mm...a lens made in 1979.
  5. I have been using Nikon lenses and cameras for over 25 years, and the 55mm Micro is without a doubt one of my all time faves...and like you Wayne, I have used it as my main lens for many years.

  6. I just purchased my first Nikon D200...and so far I love it. I was also concerned about it being made in Thailand...I am used to my Nikons (FE,F2,F3,F4)being made in Japan. But the qaulity seems to be the usuall hi standard...very well made. And the color is very good, I think as good as anything I have seen. I think the autofocus depends on the lens used... the older lenses made for film don't focus quite as fast.<div>00HlIN-31903484.thumb.jpg.21548703256f83c004b4f43fd02127ee.jpg</div>
  7. Does anyone know if all the D200's are manufactured in Thailand? I wasn't aware of this till I looked on the bottom of mine and saw "Made in Thailand"...does this bother anyone else that Nikon is making them out of Japan? Maybe it doesn't mean anything...but all my old Pro Nikons have ben made in Nippon, and I allways had the finest qaulity cameras- FE/FM/F2/F3/F4...just fabulous cameras, and never any malfuntions in the lot. I do love the D200 though, I just hope it's as reliable year after year as the rest of them..<div>00Hiqx-31851684.thumb.jpg.43beaf8dc584d346bb8f7c037bf199b8.jpg</div>
  8. I use all my Nikkor AF lenses on my DSLR's, I have two Fuji S2's, and a Nikon D200...they work just fine, and you get a 1.5x boost without loosing aperture speed. You can use your old Nikon and Nikkor AI/AIS lenses as well. You won't have metering on the D50...but you can shoot in maual and get very nice results.

  9. Heather, all means...BUY the D200! It's worth the extra money to get a camera that has the meter coupling ridge and will use all the old AI/AIS lenses! Not only uses them...but will shoot in aperture auto and meter in all modes..

And there is so much great old Nikon glass out there, and great after market Nion suff, Tamron, Vivitar etc.<div>00Hg07-31780684.thumb.jpg.ac54af643cda49628e73a8d4aae2d844.jpg</div>

  10. Dan...with the Nikon D200 you should look for the old AI/AIS lenses, especially the 180 2.8, that will take great close ups at a distance with extension tubes, or any of the micro Nikkors -55mm, 105mm or 200mm. I even use a AI converted 90-180 Vivitar Series one (photo attached).... And you can shoot in aperture priority auto or manual and meter in all modes..<div>00Hfyt-31780384.thumb.jpg.4161bd2492c7a9e621efcce24d74d6b5.jpg</div>
  11. This is a totally awsome camera!! I love that Nikon put the auto indexing tab back on a camera other than the top of the line D-series cameras...it's great, I can finally put my old AI/AIS lenses on and actually shoot in aperture priority auto...and meter!<div>00Hfyb-31780084.thumb.jpg.400983fd8863ebe6ac351fa85d83cae1.jpg</div>
  12. I like the sound of my Nikon D200...sounds solid...like a Nikon. Like my old F4S, or F3...granted they are still both built better, and will be working long after the D200 ceases to funtion...but we won't be around that long.

It is a great camera so far...and I love that Nikon thought enough of the photographers like myself that have alot of old AI/AIS lenses to put the meter couple back on the lens mount of this camera so I can meter with these old lenses and shoot in aperture priority auto mode. I do alot of nature shots that can be gone in a blink so the aperture priority mode is a very handy option...

    Cudos Nikon!<div>00HYDV-31572184.thumb.jpg.ac294dc2111de919140f7ae85cee0171.jpg</div>

  13. So I still haven't heard exactly how anyone cleans the D200...does it take an AC adapter like the D2X? I am about to buy one and I would like to know how hard it is to clean... cus.. I can't see taking it in every time and paying $30.00 and up and having the thing in the shop. I have 2 Fuji S2 cameras right now, and they are a breeze to clean...but I like the D200 for the meter couple for AI/AIS lenses.

  14. So what is the difinetive answer hear...is the MB-16 the real answer to not having to buy those damn CR-123's...does the camera funtion the same? If I use the all Double A's does the on board flash work(it is kind of handy once in awhile), otherwise I just use my SB-28. And will it damage the camera to add the MB-16?

I have 2 S2 pros and the CR-123's is one of the only gripes I have with it<div>00GuHt-30532784.thumb.jpg.e31cd121e2ed636499aee4d3d5681c9c.jpg</div>

  15. I really like the zoom lenses...just for the abillity to frame a subjet. They are a little sfter I think then primes...but more flexible. I use an old 150-500 5.6 APO Tokina AIS zoom on my Fuji S2 and love the results...and it ends up being a 750mm on the long end on my digital...without loosing any speed.<div>00Gs8E-30468384.thumb.jpg.3e54f66deafe4d9e16403bf6afc5b09b.jpg</div>
