  1. I sold my 300/4 AF and kept my 300/4.5 ED

    -like the built in hood

    -300/4 AF is bigger

For panning race cars , motocross or snowmobiles I focus on a spot on the course and then pan and fire when it gets in the zone

I sold alot of AI and AIS but am slowly buying back ones that I like

I like the feel and focus rings of AI and AIS lenses

    Thanks

  2. Simple and cheap answer

Get a 50mm or 35mm lens for the Canon

Makes the Canon alot more compact

    Convoluted and opinionated answer

I have had Voigtlander , Leica and Contax G

For the money......Voigtlander or Contax (AF and can't use Leica lenses)

Leica is better machined but more money

Rangefinder cameras reign at handheld , compact , quiet and natural(ie non-posed) photography

KISS (keep it simple) philosophy and style is what differentiates

My recomendation is to buy one body and one lens....thats it.

Either Voigtlander R3??(the new one) or Leica M6ttl and either a 50mm or 35mm or the new Voightlander 40/1.4

It took me tens of thousands of dollars of gear to figure this out but I had fun buying the gear and using it

    Thanks

  3. http://kakaku.com/sku/price/105035.htm

The best site for finding the lowest prices in Japan

Here is the link for Nikon Lenses.

You can print it out and show it to the camera store and see what the best price they can give you(warning....they wont match or beat those prices). Kakaku.com is a listing of discount shops (the places with cheapest prices have no stores just offices and warehouses)

The shop I usually order used cameras and lenses is Fujiya

This is a link to the used Nikon lenses

    http://www.fujiya-camera.co.jp/chuko_zaiko_kekka.phtml?key_maker=2&key_search_category=5&key_rank=0&key_price=0&key_price_option=0&key_keyword=&key_keyword_option=and&key_distinction=0&print_count=100

    Thanks

  4. I ordered an English manual from Nikon Japan through a local camera shop. The manual was free because I had bought the camera from them.

I also got an english copy of the software included with the D70.

  5. I thought the right hand bar would have better grip because of the ability to curl fingers under the bar.

Your right, the left hand bar would impede focussing.

Here is something for people who like hot rodding their cameras.<div>006Uj0-15275384.jpg.9fc57c9d897c918d6058541912d20df0.jpg</div>

  6. No not photoshop.

From the article it looks like he attached the grips to a second baseplate. And then it dawned on me that the top part could not be attached because the bottom has to be removed for changing film. So it looks like he used rubber on the top part to cushion against the body.

The article also shows how he took it apart and painted it.

    F100

    Sorry to hog your question.

Is it worthwile to upgrade my FE2 to a F100 or a F3?

My local shop has them used.

The only thing I don't like about the FE2 is that since I wear glasses I really have to push my eye against the finder.

I like the 1/250 flash sync of the FE2.

All my lenses are Ai or Ai'd.

    Thanks

  7. I'm looking for some new pouches for my lenses.

At present I have been using the scrotum sacks of kangaroos but want

something larger for the 90mm and 135mm.

Do you recommend elephants , Zing(heard they were bankrupt)or do you

recommend some other company for quality but renewable sources for

    pouches?

Those that are offended please be advised that these scrotums were

gifts to me. I was told that these are religious kangaroos that have

accepted vows of chastity OR have jumped in front of trucks.

  8. I sold a 50 Summilux SM to a member and I believe he uses it on a IIIg with no problems. It worked well on my M cameras but that's not what your asking. Is it worth it? Hmmmm...yes and no. If you want Leica quality and build .....yes. The new Voigtlanders are quite nice and I just picked up 50/1.5 to replace my Summilux. Should I have kept my LTM Summilux ? No.....I decided that I prefer a Summicron and only ocasionally use the extra stop of a Summilux. Now if I had had a new LTM Summicron....hmmmm....I probably would have sold it too. I don't have any SM bodies left and I'm not much of a collector and the LTM Special Editon lenses seem to attract collectors (meaning NIB types)
