Great image, Marc!

Hey Rich, very nice! What a great adventure to go there in early spring!
-
Thanks, Greg! Yes, the Lone Cypress is considered a "trademark", so images of it can't be used commercially without permission. If someone asks to buy one of my Lone Cypress shots from me, I'll be sure to tag on an extra $1.2 mil for the lawyer fees. :^D

Thank you all very much for your comments!

Thank you for taking the time to respond, mucho appreciatedo!

Question on this photo... the kayak is centered and the horizon is
centered. Does breaking these rules detract from the image? I
caught some flare too... I was holding a 3-stop GND filter up to the
lens by hand. I do have other versions that conform more to
the "rules". Thank you.

As a fellow backpacker, I would say this is my favorite image of yours, which is saying a lot. The image is spectacular, but I know being there at times like this is what it's all about, whether you come away with a great image capture or not! This is just "icing" on the cake for the experience!

Now that's magic lighting! Gorgeous image! Funny thing, I saw this image, as well as one of my kayaking Mono Lake images, in one of those PowerPoint photo presentations making the email rounds... it was supposed to be images of Canada, ha ha!
Do you shoot exclusively with your 5D now, or do you also shoot with Velvia? I'm thinking about a 5D (I don't like the crop factor on my 20D, plus many publications prefer larger file sizes than my 20D gives me), but I still love my Velvia 50 for landscapes. What are your thoughts about the 5D vs. Velvia 50? Gracias, Senor, it's always a pleasure to see a true wilderness landscape artist at work!

This has got to be the most fantastic image of Crater Lake that I have seen yet!

One of the better images I've seen in a while. Absolutely incredible.

Oh yaaa, baby! Sounds like you been there, done that! It should be renamed Muthuh Pass! But it hurts so good.
-
Thank you, Vibin! They had to crop it vertically but it was quite an honor for me to have them publish this image!
-
Thanks, Greg!

Great shot, Marc! Lookin' forward to more from this series!
As for as scratched GND filters, what I do when hand-holding is get a fat rubberband and put it around the edge of my lens, just enough so the filter is against the rubber and not the lens. Those 4x6 Galen Rowell/Singh-Ray GND filters are ka-ching, ha!
