1.
tried the 'clear all settings' command but 'PRAM'? I am inclined to think that if I havent missed something that there is a problem. There should be 4 choices of metering and i appear to have 2 one of which is centre the other...?
I dont have the frame in which the symbols appear so i am wondering if the technician installed the correct board.
It's just a guess

 2.
thanks Alan I just couldnt remember what the bracketing procedure was, however my manual makes no reference to changing to multi shot. Your directions for the metering mode are the same as the manual and it doesn't seem to be working. No frame just a dot that comes off or on to signify spot metering - I think but that's not right.
3.
I have a 5d which has recently had a main board replaced. I have been checking through and renewing settings. My overall concern is that some things have't been restored with the changing of this board - but it could just as well be me.
The metering icon 'window' that appears on the LCD panel isn't there I can get a dot to indicate spot metering, but the little rectangular window is not there. I have been through my manual but can't seem to find a control to actually turn it on.
Re bracket control my memory is that i had it set up for single shot and when bracketing was selected it was automatic that it took 3 shots. Would it have needed to have been changed to multi shot to use bracketing? It has to do so now.

 4.
thanks gents. So far i havent noticed any noise with higher iso, but then the images have been with very good light. I have a little Ricoh that is absolutely useless above about 200. In the dark there are fragments everywhere.
I like to take pan sequences. Generally I try to use a tripod having learned the lesson - painfully. Sometimes, however, its too heavy to cart. ANd I have got lucky on numerous occasions. but not always. Both of you have given me good information or confirmation thanks again, food for thought and i have just bought a CF tripod and head.

 5.
WIth a film cam I would have used a slow speed and a relatively small F stop with 100asa film and probably a tripod. Now I still have film but also have a 5d.
So, my question is will there be a difference in sharpness if increase the sensitivity to say 500 and using a slow speed say about 125 with a small f stop to using 100 'asa' and a similar balance of ap and shutter speed.
I have been testing but havent printed, so far I cant see any difference????? Should I??

 6.
Off to Nthn India this year and as i have about 3 boxes of E100 still patiently sitting in my freezer I thought i might cart the Mighty Crown Graphic along. Anyone got any knowledge of potential processors in Delhi?
7.
I have a 5d. I was in the past directed to a site that did comparisons but cant seem to find it today. Trying to get a users idea of the differences between these two. I like the portability of the canon, but I am wondering about sharpness. The wider stop is not an issue for me particularly given the weight of the sigma. Any experience of the two would be nice.
Thanks
8.
I just found this as i was trolling to see what they are now worth as I am selling mine. I never had a problem with it, but I cant remember if I ever used the masks. the only disadvantage was that it made the kit so much heavier. Two years ago i went to Java with this kit and climbing volcanoes with all this stuff - well I'd just as soon carry a few LF light darks. I am keeping my Graflex but the MF stuff is going, I'm getting too old!

 9.
Using the grid on cs3 Iwonder if there is some way of selecting the number of lines on it. At small sizes 16/25 there are too many to be useful. It never occured to me as I have been just putting up with it until i noticed in the les correction box that you could do this. I have tried looking about and cant see this option but maybe someone knows more than me, well actually I am sure of it.
10.
I have a 5d wonder if anyone would care to comment on the Sigma 20mm 1.8 Dg and the Canon 20mm 2.8?
Reviews I have read suggest the Canon is, perhaps, not so 'good'? I am really only interested in image quality, not weight or the mechanics. I also do understand that it appears that luck has a lot to do with the sample you get of either.
11.
yeah thanks guys this is interesting. I read the dp review and it isnt favourable. I also read this one at photozone
http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/297-sigma-af-20mm-f18-ex-test-report--review
which was critical but I thought reasonable.
I have been leaning towards a tokina 17mm at-x pro but it is 2 stops slower and I rather like the bokeh of the sigma...... blah.
I guess there real issue here might well be quality control particulalry for the sigma which makes buying a second hand one a bit of a minefield
How often do you guys use your wides with the autofocus? is it useful on a 20 or a 17?

 12.
Thanks for this There is one area in the reviews that i have been scouring that hasnt been covered - what sort (if any) of bokeh do you get with the tokina? It is an 8 blade but as its only a 3.5 I am assuming its not all that 'good'.

 13.
I have a canon 5d. I haven't had it long and am trying to build a range of primes for it. I am agonising over a choice of wides. I have read all of the reviews/comments i can find and I think I may be erring towards the sigma for its bokeh, however I cant find anything about the tokina in this regard. Any comments, opinions, biases or hatreds re either of these I would be more than happy to hear.
I am wondering if the the
17mm F3.5 TOKINA ASPHERICAL ATX PRO (77) 35MM SLR AUTO FOCUS
is compatible with my canon D5. THe reviews i have read suggest it is but I am trying to get some more information

 15.
I recently bought a 5d and am thinking about 'what wide'? the sigma 20mm f1.8 looks interesting, but I havent been able to find much in the way of reviews so was wondering if anyone had any experience with it, or any other recommendations in this size or a bit wider from any of the other manufacturers in this price range. I am not much of zoom fan, I do prefer primes having had nothing but a lack of satisfaction from the zoom i have used in the past.
Thanks
17.
I have been using a 612 camera for some time with a Schnieder 65mm. I am wondering what sized lense i might use to approximate this view on a full frame digital camera (20mm, 12mm, 10mm?). I do realise that the 612 is going to have a different aspect ratio, but am still wondering how to calculate for some sort of result.
Thanks
18.
you might want to review that 5d price for 'down here', I just acquired one for 1850aud. It's equally true that you may well find a better priced one in the US, although there are an awful lot of people there who seem to feel that selling to exotic and far away places like...Canada is just not on and selling to Oz? well it may as well be 'Oz' with the Wizard. I have never understood it.

 19.
chris I have done a lot of travel with a camera including Cap. YOu cant 'get' these landscapes with one shot of a normal 'view'. I moved to a 612 camera with a wide lens to be able to do this, but the alternative is to use a good 50mm and shoot pans on manual (best with tripod) with 50% overlaps and then use PS which has become VERY good at joining pics, it gives you several options. Other choices I wouldnt intrude on but a wide would be good maybe you can get a second hand 24? Yes Balloon rides are not to be missed. Black sea in summer is beautiful albeit crowded with local tourism, but there is a great ferry service, which is also amazing cheap. The Haghia Sofia does not allow tripods - 0r didnt when i was there, but IF the upper galleries are open (Big IF) you could use the balcony railings and shoot pans. 2 other tips maritime muze has amazing collection of sultan's barges and Edirne is a quieter and impressive place, not as oft visited as istanbul.
