I was taking a lighting class and a created this during a homework
assignment. The natural picture was black&white due to the lighting so
I used photoshop to add the tint and clean up some imperfections in
the table and the glass.

Here is the original raw picture. The leaves in the final picture came from a version of this picture that I shot with the backlights off.
Thanks Steven. You should look into the Plano Photography club, it has helped me a lot.

The background really was black, and aside from some burning to hide the stand, I did not treat it separately. I try not to get too involved with numbers in my photography (aside from f-stop/shutter speed). I have enough numbers and technical details in my day job.

Thanks, those are both great compliments and I have already noticed that niether are easy to come by around here. :)

Thanks, not sure what you meant by "painted", but I just selected the petals and did a hue shift. All other colors are natural except for some levels and saturation adjustements. The petals still have a lot of white because I backlit the flower which made them glow. I didn't want the leaves to have that look so I cut them out of a version of the photo that was not backlit.

I cant tell they are little, just that they are young.

I like it, good use of the single light, I would probably crop the lower 1/3 since it is empty except for her arm leading you out of the pic.

I like him reaching out of the picture. It is gimicky, but I think you pulled it off ok.

I think you were lucky with light, it was very good for availble. Even has the catchlight in the eyes. A little more shadow, or a little underexposure might have helped make it little more somber, I am not sure though.

great lighting, but my eyes are torn between the two sets, i might like it better cropped in half
